What do you all think? With how he played, he could put up his 1000th yard by Game7 or 8... But I think Game 10 is more reasonable and cautious....

Barring injury........... 1200 yds easy by the end of the year. He and Brady looked way too comfortable today for it to be a fluke.

Too may other targets for us to expect much more. I think well over 4000 for TB is very realistic.

You know what? Moss made Duante Culpepper. Seriously, some of the passes Brady threw were not perfect and Moss was covered. He basically reached around or over the defender. The guy is a freak. Thing is, if Brady gets in trouble, all he needs to do is lob the ball high and Moss will go get it.

Serious question, and I'm not saying we'll beat it.....but what's the record number of yards thrown by a QB in a single season?

Hey... I could have said something silly and said game 6... but I figured game 10 was a safer bet.... :D

And its been forever since the Pats had a WR with Moss' talent that has just left me with my jaw open in AWE.... Stanley Morgan was the last one.

Funny, I thought they might treat him like Corey Dillon in 2004 and not start him until the second half of the season opener.

    Glad they played him.

that was just an amazing display--especially after his first reception--remember the announcers??

'nice play by Moss to juke Kerry Rhodes at the line of scrimmage...but the OLD Randy Moss would have SCORED on that play...but then again, that was Kerry Rhodes that he blew by at the line of scrimmage...'

damn--this is gonna be FUN to watch!!!!!

With this team, you never know. Next week's game plan could be all Maroney and Watson.

But heavens, I'm just not used to seeing a WR look like that in a Patriots uniform. What a sight. Welcome to New England, Randy.

I think it'll take the 14/15 games before he hits it. Just because of the way the Patriots Offense works.

I'd agree if I didn't see Moss get 9 receptions even with 6 other receivers getting the ball...

It's just impossible to speculate with Belichick at the helm. Don't think for a minute the Pats will be a passing team all year. But the beautiful thing is...what a set of decoys we have "IF" we decide to run the ball more for any particular game!

the key is we MUST run the ball well all season in order to keep defenses on their heals! As long as we show we CAN run the ball successfully, the passing game is there for the taking.

Although this is true for ANY team, there is only ONE team with Tom Brady at quarterback and Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, Ben Watson, etc. for receivers!

    .....OH............YEAH!!!

No one is thinking that they will be a passing team all year..

An interesting note is that the Pats had 37 runs and 28 passes today... 65 offensive plays...

Yes...many ARE thinking they'll be a passing team based upon many of the comments being posted. But the stats you posted show the reality! Good job!

I believe that the 'way the Pats work' is actually at least partially an urban myth. They have never had a problem riding Brady hard instead of having a proper running game. And when Troy Brown was playing at his peak, he got a ton of passes thrown his way.

Corey Dillon was allowed to tear it up for as many yards as he wanted in 2004. They let him hit his contract goals in a meaningless season final game against the 49ers. They also let him back in a blow out against the Browns just to get 2 more yards and hit 100.

I think that the pats would be perfectly happy to ride Moss as far as they can this year.

I think moss will write his own ticket this year, and produce whatever yards he can.

Will they spread the ball and take what they are given? Sure. But I don't see it impeding Moss all that much. I think they have spread the ball in the past because they didn't have any go-to guys. When you have no run game and dwarf WRs, the natural thing to do is spread the ball and dink and dunk.

When you can get 30 yards per play regardless of coverage, that is the natural thing to do.

True, but that figure is mildly misleading since it includes a 4th qtr running out the clock with a 14+ point lead. They ran 17 times to just 6 passes in the 4th, so while the outcome was still in doubt it was 22 passes, 20 rushes. Still balanced, of course.

I'm just going by prior years, but as you point out, the offense can certainly evolve into something different based on the arsenal of weapons in comparison to prior years. Weis was certainly a pass-happy, spread offense type of OC during his time with New England (and the Jets), and this year we should get a fairly decent indicator of what Josh McD is.

I believe that they will always look to hurt the defense at it's weak points and hit the open man, which is the 'spread' idea, for sure.

I also think that if Moss ends up being the open man, Brady will pass to him more often than not.

It feels good to have some playmakers! I could get used to it.
