Special Teams Film Review... from the Panthers game

Bolden is a key ST guy or used to be, remmeber him. I have Slater, Ebner, Bolden, Arrington, White as ST Guys, 1 WR/S/CB/RB/LB. To go with Backup/ST Guys - Lafell, Wilson, Ryan, Devilin, Fleming.
Add Edelman/Amendola + Aiken + Allen and Gostkowski. Didn't add McCourty, Collins, Any OL/TE. Moore makes the 53, but not the game day roster. Chung is the wildcard.

A lot of important stuff there but...can you get a bit more specific about slater? I was under the impression he was far and away out best ST specialist

Great work Rook. Miss your posts here. Only a couple of slight disagreements. We'd lose Moore and Fleming if we don't protect them. Pass rushers are too hard to find and we don't cut 4th round picks in their first camp. I'd take Moore over a 7th lb and Fleming over a C. Not sure what he's going to do there. Stork to IR?? Cut Wendell?? Doubt if we release Mallett at this point. If Jimmy G is playing, god forbid. You really do need an experienced qb behind him just to help with preparation. Or, if he's throwing a stinker. Can't see McCullers on 53 at Mallett's expense.

I have to acknowledge that cutting 4th rounders is not likely. But I'm pretty confident that Mallett won't be on the team by Week 1.

I'm not worried about carrying all those nominal LBs. It is another ripple effect of not having quality TE depth; on ST, they play much the same role.

Sorry McCuller, so much for my roster machinations to make room for you! To be clear, I justified his roster spot on strength of ST play...and he didn't play on ST against the Panthers... so I'm really reaching for reasons to keep him. Drop McCuller for inactive Moore.

Keeping OL Fleming is a head scratcher. He hasn't contributed on O or ST in any real way, so we're carrying him only to protect him while he learns how to be effective. Hard to cut Wendell with Stork still a complete enigma. Kline and Devey deserve their spots on merit. Keeping 10 OL with two rookies who project as persistent Inactive is tough, especially if that costs us someone like Bolden. I'd rather keep Bolden and take consolation in the fact that our roster is deep enough that a quality draft pick can't break the top 53. (Shrug)

I do think Slater is a solid STer. He just didn't make any plays in the game. He covered the gunner. He blocked downfield. He was in the coverage units. But I didn't credit him with any tackles or impact plays. Just a bad day for him.
