What a joke of a state. Hey, this is going to be free once it's paid for though, don't forget! :banned:

So when are we giving those illegals free tuition? :violent:

I posted an article or two a couple of months ago, when the state was working on it's budget. We were something like $1.5 billion in the red, but because tax receipts were higher than expected, we added spending to the budget. Seriously now, when will we cut spending, as opposed to raising taxes and fees? Oh, but like Patters says, the gubmit operates just like any normal business would. It's just as efficient.

How does the Turnpike Authority go to the brink of bankrupcy, when it was supposed to be paid for after X amount of years?

Pike rescue plan raises questions at Statehouse hearing

    By Eric Moskowitz, Globe Staff

The Patrick administration's plan to help out the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, which is laboring under a crushing $2.4 billion debt, received a lukewarm reception today from the chairman of a legislative committee at a Statehouse hearing.

Senator Mark Montigny, a New Bedford Democrat who is chairman of the Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures, and State Assets, said he had questions about the proposal, under which the state would essentially act as a co-signer on the authority's debt. He wondered if the plan could hurt the state's credit rating.

    ..........

The Globe reported Wednesday that the governor is engineering a large-scale financial rescue of the authority. The House, acting at the administration's request, gave initial approval Tuesday to legislation that would allow the authority to refinance $800 million in debt to avoid potentially ruinous repayment terms. The plan calls for the authority to use the state's higher credit rating to refinance its debt to lower its borrowing costs.

Michael Widmer, president of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, a business-backed budget watchdog group, said a gas tax increase and tolls on Interstate 93 heading into Boston are needed and inevitable because of the Turnpike's financial problems, even if lawmakers don't acknowledge it yet.

You know when you're on the pike you see those maintenance buildings and you almost never see much maintenance going on ... so how abou they lay off half of those people who drive those ugly greenish yellow trucks and do mostly nothing all the time.

I'm 100% convinced that there are two guys in one of those trucks parked by the Allston/Brighton exit that haven't done an ounce of work in the past year. Every single time I drive past there they are just leaning against the hood talking to each other.
