Prefere Peppers but no problem with Taylor, great player and mentor for whoever we draft, if we do draft an OLB.

Re: Sources close to Jason Taylor: Pats are top choice (Yahoo)-merged

If this is true it means means there's no pressing need to to waste our #1 pick on an OLB project, so say goodbye to pick #47 (or 34) and hellooowwwe Rey Maualuga.

Anyone who throws water on that scenario is either insane or has some other agenda. :)

NEVER EVER EVER will the Pats draft Ray Maualuga!!!! He is the exact player the fans go nuts over and BB avoids in the draft. Checkered past with multiple run ins with the law, a below average football intelligence, as well as everyday intelligence as evident after his wonderlick score was leaked(15). He relies strictly on his athletic abilities and the talent around him at USC. James Laurinaitis out of Ohio State is a much more likely LB for our system. He is a little under sized at 244, and most scouts that he does not show that much upside, but his football intellect and play to the whistle style fits perfectly with our defensive environment. Plus his stats are more impressive than Maualuga, with less talent around him.

Big-10 skill position players are a risk at best to take in the first round. Look at Vernon Gholston and Bobby Carpenter, the last two OSU linebackers taken in the 1st round. One's a total bust and the other's probably on his way.

As a 2nd rounder, he's a possibility, but he's probably a career 2-down linebacker and who knows if he'll be any good at that. The Big-10 is just such a bad conference that it's much tougher to judge NFL careers on college play.

So I guess they weren't all that in the know, then, were they? :D

By that point, the Tuna was calling the shots for the LOLphins, and they weren't about to make that mistake again, even if the Pats were offering tasty draft picks.

LOL...is that you again Tuna? We already told you "no" we're not swapping picks for your 7th if Rey is there at 23.

Seriously, are you saying that there's no way Belichick looks at Maualuga if he falls to 23? And I completely disagree with you that Belichick would never take a player that fits your above description. Who ever said that Maualuga has "below average" football intelligence?
