Congratulations to her ... a proud day for all Latin-Americans in the country. A group that is growing and ever eager to be a part of the national process. IMO she will be very close to the middle on the court. She may be more the swing vote than the left would like. I think she will do an excellant job. Of course ... I'm on record here of saying I'm glad we also have another woman on the court ... hopefully we end up with one more.

On another note ... the stupidity of some republicans of voting no. Especially John McCain of all people whose district is growing in Hispanic population. The GOP took a step backwards today ... showing that bi partisanship is not a part of their agenda ... dumb - dumb - dumb.

News flash..John McCain is a Senator, not a representative and as such doesn't have a district but represents all of Arizona, which as you correctly stated has a growing Hispanic population. As for the partisan nature of Supreme Court confirmations, the Democrats started it with Robert Bork who was rejected not on his qualifications but on ideology. It has continued on BOTH sides regrettably. The Republicans and the Democrats are both at fault here.

Time will tell, I don't trust people that are always "grinning"...........

Isn't it racist to always bring up the Hispanic Stuff, who gives a sh!t, if she was a Swede would they be saying "oh gosh, goo goo we have our first f-cking Swede" tra la la twiddle dee dee aren't we wonderful, oh god mother isn't this great, are the "Whitey's" supposed to kiss her a$s now, all I want on the Supreme Court is a good honest judge I don't give a sh!t what her nationality is and I don't care what her skin looks like.

Now I Would Like To See Her DEPORT AUNT ZUCCHINI.

Maybe they thought she wasn't qualified. You know, the racist and sexist part. Or have we stooped to a point where we have to vote for a minority solely because he/she is a minority. I would be in favor of Republicans voting YES for a Hispanic; just not this Hispanic.

I would like to congratulate her as well, but also point out that voting "no" somehow made Republicans look stupid. I think it is their duty to vote no if they do not feel she is a good candidate. Was anyone who voted against Sam Alito stupid? How about those that voted against John Roberts? How about the 33 that voted against Rehnquist? Do you think Senators should vote in candidates without a "no" vote? Were they doing their duty when they did this for Scalia (98 to 0)? Was the best interest of the country served then in your opinion? I think it is fine to vote against someone you may not think is right for the job.

does this mean we have to pronounce oscar mayer the same way people have been pronouncing sotomayor with accenting of the mayor part?

I've known sotomayors for 40 years, and they have a particular disdain for the way her last name is pronounced...........gotta be that wise latino chick thing

Uh, right. Because she was inarguably more qualified than either Roberts or Alito.

So what are you arguing, again?

She's a good pick, IMO, for political, social, and qualifications reasons. Obama made this an easy pick. No one has much of a beef with her except the racial justice crusaders who hate her because she's a racist. (For the record, I think the policy that screwed those firefighters in Hartford was definitely racist and her vote on the matter was wrong but was interpretive of a stupid, racist law.)
