Peyton Manning looked good last night, better than I had expected against the Steelers stout defense. That Bronocs game is looking better now as Manning has returned.

He looked pretty much like the old Peyton personally.

    Thoughts?

A chunk of his throws were ducks. Very few spirals, very few balls with zip.

The first team that forces him to make tough throws in the intermediate to deep range will come away with a W. Pittsburgh couldn't do that. He's still capable of being a football genius, and we saw that last night. But his arm is not what it used to be, and it's not even close.

I don't think either team we saw last night will factor into the AFC that much in the end. Pittsburgh fans should be preparing for a down year; Denver has a decent team overall, but can't say them competing with NE, Balt or Houston come January.

I wouldn't say he looked like the old Peyton, maybe the old Peyton with a little bit less arm strength. But that's still better than at least 25 other starting QB's. I think we'll have our hands full with him when we play Denver, but it shouldn't be hard to outscore him after watching his defense.

Let's wait a few weeks. He looked good at times, but I don't know if going against the Steelers defense is as hard as you think especially with Harrison and Clark out. I think age may have started to set into that Steelers' defense.

It was a good start, but I would hold off on declaring him back as good as ever until we see him play for several weeks.

The Steelers already lost key guys to retirement ect: and also didn't have their leader Harrison on the field.

It is hard to tell if this would have been the difference, but Manning definatly took advantage of a weaker Steelers front 7

I agree with what BradyManny said. Manning can still run an offense as well as anyone and is still an accurate passer, but some of those passes were not very pretty.

The announcers were to afraid to point it out, but a lot of those passes were wobbling and didn't have any zip on them.

Hmm...I thought he look as if he aged quite a bit since his last game in the NFL. His arm and throws are just not what they used to be. He can def manage a game at the line, but in terms of dominating a good team with his arm for 60 minutes..nope! It may be enough in the AFC west, but against the elite in the AFC/NFC, it will not work. Luckily for them they won't have to face the Niners :)

The odd thing about Peyton that few people seem to be aware of is he never threw a really tight spiral ala Brady. At least not consistently. A lot of his balls looked like wobblers even when they covered the distance or arrived precisely on time and on target. Just like he seldom sets his feet and throws off the balls of his seemingly happy feet.

The Steelers are not a good football team right now. Even Polamalu looks bad, and Ike Taylor has had a horrendous last two games against the Broncos. I want to see more from Peyton.

I'm looking forward to Denver coming into Gillette even more. Let the rivalry extend as long as it can. That said I hope it's cold and snowy in Denver this year. Lets see his stats in the muck.

I don't know about that. I've been watching Peyton Manning a long time. I never watched his throws and thought I was watching a high school football QB like last night. Maybe I just wasn't looking for it before. But his ball was weak last night.

AGreed, but Patriots always had a tough time with Chad Pennington (when they weren't knocking him out of the game). Peyton right now is like Chad Pennington 5.0.

This! I've haven't watched a ton of Colts games in the past, but the Manning I saw last night and even in the preseason looked as if he aged considerably since his last regular season game.

I didn't see the whole game but I thought he looked pretty good. The entire offense didn't move like a well oiled machine like the Colt' O used to, but that is to be expected; too many different pieces and probably some rust. Who knows if he could ever simulate those old offenses.

Furthermore, just because he looked good this week doesn't mean much, afterall Sanchez looked good this past weekend as well. There were 10 QBs our of 28 that had passer ratings greater than 100. That seems unusually high. My opinion is that the replacement refs are letting the o line get away with some holding, which is giving the QBs extra time. We shall see if that lasts.

Let's wait and do some analysis after week 5 ;) (which is whn Manning comes to Foxboro).

Nobody is going to lok like their "old" self after missing a year of football. Unless you meant Peyton looked old, but I know you mean..back to form.

He was much better than anyone expected or had a right to expect. He did, after all, miss a year.

No one has mentioned TOP. The Broncos had the ball for 36 seconds in the 3rd quarter. He was hardly on the field, and made incredible use of the time that he was.

    Denver is instantly a contender.
