Will this funny looking bastard get fired for this, imagine Beck/Palin/Coulter/O'Reilly saying this......lol

HBO's Bill Maher: "I thought when we elected a black president, we were going to get a black president. You know, this [BP oil spill] is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt where you can see the gun in his pants. That's -- (in black man voice) we've got a 'motherfu**ing problem here?' Shoot somebody in the foot."

What a disgusting, reprehensible thing to say. But since he's a liberal, no one will care or make a big deal out of it. Reminds me of that incident many years ago when Ted Danson went on stage with Whoopi Goldberg in black face. If you're a liberal, it's OK to be a condescending, racist piece of garbage.

Watch the excuses the liberals come up with "defending him" the first one (oh he was only kidding)

Comedy is supposed to be funny. Maher is a comedian. His opinion means nothing to me. He's not very funny, IMO, but his point is made in a comedy setting. What he said was racist and stupid, but comedians don't get fired for being racist (see Chris Rock, Rush Limbaugh, Andrew Dice Clay, Don Rickles, Flip Wilson -for you old farts- and Eddie Murphy). News casters, journalists and politicians do. Comedians are different from those people.

Kind of sad that in order to prove you point about racist comidians, you gave 6 names. Of those 6 names, one isn't even a comedian and 3 of the other 5 are black. Hmmmmmmm....

I don't remember Andrew Dice Clay even being racist. Now, granted, I never exactly saw any of his performances but I remember him being more sexist than racist. As for Don Rickles, he is the perfect example of a guy who, if he came around today, would never make it because of how offensive his routine is.

Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that offensive or racist comments by comedians are still capable of causing a public uproar. If you don't believe me, just ask Michael Richards.

The "minority comedians" don't count, it's impossible for them to be Racist, they get a free pass no matter what they say.

Little by little the liberals are finally seeing through Obama he isn't the Left Wing Hero that they thought he was he's a Chicago "bullsh!t artist" and the racist loons fell for it.......
Helen Thomas was the first to speak up and publicly say "Obama's No Liberal" more will follow, the Hope'y Change'y was all a bunch of Con Man Sh!t.

Maher might have tried to make it sound funny but he too like Helen Thomas is starting to 'wake up'

Personally I see some Communism in Our Messiah.

Wait, is Obama to the right of the liberals who supported him, or is he a communist, or a socialist?

I think you need to get your story straight.

(OT: Don Rickles is still the funniest comedian out there)

Chappelle "retiring" was a huge loss.

(But I think we should keep in mind that racial jokes aren't the same as racism)

for all the complaining the right does about the left crying victim, there's sure a lot of claiming to be a victim from the right itself

if any rightwing comedians have been called out for jokes being racist, that would indeed be a double standard

(btw, it's an odd definition of left / liberal that makes Maher a lefty, since (I think) he's more a libertarian than a Dem)

Right Wing Comedians would rather stick a gun in their mouth than make a joke a about a minority, they would be black-balled for all of eternity and beyond.

    (are there rightwing comedians?)

    None I can think of.

Comedian or not, his statement/bit was racism.

Like mentioned in posts above, if this was from ANY right wing source, there would have been hell to pay and all you Libs know it.

The very fact that they choose not to post in this thread is speaks volumes.

I'm a liberal? Because I'm not a republican? The way partisanship warps people's thought processes is fascinating.

The comment wasn't racism. It was a stereotype, perhaps. But racism would be believing that all blacks, or a disproportionate # of blacks, are gun-toting criminals, and believing that is due to their race. (The Sopranos, for ex, wasn't prejudiced against Italians, even though the characters may have been stereotypes)

    That's a fair statement.

It's also fair to say that a conservative person making the same statement would have been treated very differently, hence why they are avoiding this discussion.

ok, sorry -- was thrown by the "you libs" part

I guess I have a hard time imaging the response re a rightwing comediansince I can't think of them now. Is that foxworthy guy rightwing? Does he only mock rednecks (self-deprecating, i've always assumed)?

I have no doubt that the folks mentioned in the first post would be treated differently, but that is apples and oranges.

BTW chico, I'm not a republican either. I'm nothing. I don't like any of the parties. I am, by and large, conservative though.

I've always tried to vote for the best person, I don't care about party affiliation. Most often for me, that is a republican. I have voted for dems in the past though.

This forum is very partisan, it seems like a contest to see who can piss off the other side the most. This country has become more and more divisive over time. It's starting to get very ugly. So far, I have not lost friends or family over political views but I know some of my friends have. That is truely sad when people are so far apart they see no way to work together or even try.

If your not a left wing liberal that automaticlly makes you a republican, I too am "nothing" i used to be a democrat years ago then they left me when the "Loon Far Left Wing " took them over, people like Pelosi, Boxer, Dean, Reid etc, you can tell them you are "nothing until your blue in the face but if you aren't a Left Wing Liberal to them you are a Republican.
