Someone we should consider drafting

His name is Chris Johnson and he is coming out of East Carolina University. I had the great pleasure to watch him play every home game of his college career, and I feel he could be like a Kevin Faulk to the team. He is an explosive RB with hands and route running like a WR, and he is also an extremely good KR. He had a breakout year this year, and in the Sheraton Hawaii bowl against Boise State he set a bowl record (for all bowls) by having the most all-purpose yard ever.

He's been discussed here in a few threads. A couple of mocks have us taking him in the second through fourth rounds. It's good to have somebody who's seen him in action several times. Does he really have 4.2 speed? That's Deion Sanders territory.

I am not sure about 4.2, but let's just say that he was most likely in the top 5 for fastest player in the NCAA

The running back that the pats need is someone that has some range and can take advatange of the space underneath that is created by the WR corp.

But since teams like to blitz brady, the RB need to be able to block and run routes well.

Imagine a RB like Tomlinson out of the back field so many options for brady.

Maroney is a RB that can cover a wide range of field, catch and run the ball inside or outside.

If we have Maroney we don't need a LT, and Johnson is more of a Faulk, which we need becase he is turning 32 soon.

After seeing maroney do so well in the playoffs against the jags. I think a strong but very fast sure handed slot receiver will really help maroney.

I really want us to draft him too, can't wait to watch him run at the combine. I have read that his average 40 time is 4.27 his high is 4.35 and his low is 4.2 flat and I believe it after seeing him run in that bowl game!!!!

I can say he does run a 4.2. I live in Greenville N.C. home of East Carolina. Watched him over the last 4 yrs Amazing is all I can say. Would be a great patriot.

Had to bump this back up, after taking another look at Johnson.

Everyone seems to be talking about his forty time, and straight line speed. That's obviously a plus, but I want people to watch the fallowing highlights, and pay attention to some other notable qualities.

1) pay particular attention to his feet, the type of steps he makes, his cuts, and balance.
2) Watch his burst, and ability to change gears.
3) Pay attention to his patience and vision as a returner/receiver/RB.
4) His ability to catch the ball in traffic, and downfield.

That's not simply a KR specialist, but a kid with strong RB/WR potential.

I think he's gonna end up being valued moreso by atleast one other team than NE. Someone's gonna snag this kid by atleast the 3rd round, and I dont think we'll be willing to do it. I think we may be looking at a back in the mid rounds, but I doubt early enough to pick up this kid's talents.

Where would the Pats take him though, with their late 2nd or early 3rd?
I think he sounds like a playmaker, but he doesn't sound like a starting, every down back. So the Pats probably wouldn't draft a guy like this until the 2nd day. Some team will fall in love with the speed and reach a lot sooner though.

Yerp, Johnson didn't record a single fumble during his college career, and that's always nice to see.
