Got these off a Democratic Underground thread. The only thing that's changed is back then a lot of Democrats were conservative on social issues, i.e., anti-black. Ronnie Reagan won them over to the Republicans.

I think they're roughly the same people. They're against blacks, Latinos, gays, Muslims, socialists, communists, unions, etc. In the same sense, liberals are against veterans, stock brokers, and churches.

Yes, but I also left "impoverished children" off the conservative list so it evens out.

So Patters, you think it is a fair comparison between bigoted people protesting equal rights and people protesting a massive new government program implemented at the same time we are running historic deficits? Are the two things equivalent in your mind? I see plenty of reasons to be concerned about the direction this administration is going on healthcare, and I don't see a real connection between voicing those concerns and promoting racism.

Also, thinking that the healthcare protestors are anti-black, anti-gay, anti-latino, etc etc is small-minded thinking.

I think it's basically the same people protesting. While I don't deny there are many people who oppose the health care program out of genuine concern, I think the most vocal ones are largely driven driven by hatred for Obama and white fear of losing their special privileges. Consider that in North Carolina, for instance, 75% of Republicans question where Obama was born. IMHO, that is racism -- loosely based on Obama's skin color and and his Muslim father. That same sort of prejudice is what is being tapped into and redirected by some conservative pundits. Out of curiosity, do you think the fact that most of those who think Obama is not American are Republicans from the south has nothing to do with race?

The Obama groupies can't believe that there are people in this country who would dare to have the audacity to disagree and stand up to their Beloved Prince Obama so what do they do, they try to Label all these old White People who are daring to execise their FREEDOM as Racist, Nazi's and Unamerican when in fact all these old White Mother F-ckers are doing is "Acting Like Left Wing Democrats"

But now you're trying to equate the birthers with the healthcare skeptics, I would just have to disagree that they're the same people, though I will definitely agree that the most vocal protesters are generally the crazies. We need look no further than the antiwar crowd for examples of that! Its true of most hot button issues though, war, abortion, taxes, the environment, etc. etc.

I still take issue with your assertion that protesting health insurance and protesting integration are the same people. It would be like me insisting that you are a 9/11 truther because you oppose the Iraq war.

Funny how this is all a new phenomenon for many on the left. Sheesh this stuff was applauded by them during the last administration. It was their patriotic duty to disrupt and protest. Apparently, like many on the left Dingell suffers with CRS (can't remember sh! t) or SMS (selective memory syndrome).

Don't be pat and try to paint it as opposition to protest when that's not what anybody is saying.

Protest against Bush and you are an American citizen exercising your constituional rights and your concern for the well being of your country, Praise God.

Protest against Obama you are the Ku Klux Klan..

Black Panthers standing outside of America's Polling Places with Billy Clubs is what reminds me of The Klan, liberal democrats throwing pies at Ann Coulter is what reminds me of The Klan, democrats going through Sarah Palins Garbage Bags is what reminds me of The Nazis

My guess is that most of the people in the older photo are dead at this point. I guess it is better (from an Alinsky POV) to play the race card than talk about the particulars of the government takover of the HEalth care system and what it would mean for the country.
