    Note that Uncle Sam was drawn on the GOP side ... interesting in that perhaps that also applies today.

    4 years before the 16th amendment was passed. Class warfare used to screw the little guy with the Personal Income Tax.

    No...it was actually factual backt then. over 90% of this nation was Christian back then. So although we weren't a Christian nation, for Americans to think/believe we were is just natural.

    The early 1900's was the peak of Christiandom...it is now declining relative to other religions & atheism.

    I think PFinV is referring to the anti-Semitic undertones of that particular 'toon. (The Rotschilds being a prominent and successful Jewish family).

    Yeah, thanks B5. It's about like the later Nazi propaganda cartoons. In the early part of the century -- the era when this particular cartoon came from -- such attitudes were considered "okay" and part and parcel of mainstream "discourse."

    The hysterical shouting syntax of the caption reminds me of some of our locals here, btw -- though that is a stylistic point.
