wow... I think this is the first OTG thread without a troll on it... Anyone heard from fourthandgoal lately? Haven't seen him since the 23 straight wins thread.

Great work as usual OTG. Keep it up.

Yes, Jack Knife Julian is great.

For me, the one with the knife analogy is Ridley. I can't say how much I've enjoyed watching him use pace and strength to cut straight through what seems to be a crowded infield. Steven "the Sabre" Ridley?

"Wreck It" Ridley? He trashes defenses.

Chaw VI ~ Aaron The Navigator!! :D

I'll try to get Fells written up, and then call it a week. :)

Aaron The Navigator!!!

232345711.jpg

1 ~ A Quick Refresher: "Wing Back" is an ancient FootBall term that goes back 100 years, and is nearly extinct.

2 ~ I am attempting a ludicrously unilateral Campaign to bring it back, and for this reason: There is a new Position in this League, that being the alleged "Tight End" who is in fact an Hybrid Flex End (example: Vernon Davis) ~ Tight End (example: Rob "Kong" Gronkowski) ~ Full Back...and Wing Back...But "Wing Back", even though it is only one of the many Roles he plays, seems to capture the Spirit of what this truly revolutionary Player does.

3 ~ And how remarkable and bemusing that Aaron The Navigator, on the first Drive of'is first Game back, plays two different roles on'is first two Plays: On the first Play, he plays FullBack, set back Right ~ if that's the correct way to phrase it?? ~ and on the second Play, he's a Left Wing...after starting out at Flex End.

4 ~ For the short 1st Possession and for the first few Plays of the 2nd Drive, the Patriots didn't do much with The Navigator, but at 11:00 ~ if you Taped it ~ they lined up with a 1st & 10 on the 50 Yard Line, and with Hernandez lined up at what I'll call Right Wing, just off Daniel Fells Parkway's Right Flank, more off the Line than on it.

These nuances can drive you crazy, when trying to talk about this Great Game in a discernible manner!!

But I love'm, By the Gods!!

So Hernandez runs a beautiful Crossing Route and executes an exquisite finger tip Catch on a slightly overthrown Pass...after which he lays down some incredible juking, considering that he's still clearly not 100%. 27 Yards.

Even when Bobby Orr had both knees blown out, he could weave some truly stunning Magic.

And so it is with Aaron The Navigator: even when he's stiff and rusty, he's like Baryshnikov, out there.

Again: I am deliriously undereducated when it comes to FootBall terms...My Apologies.

5 ~ Hernandez was deployed in much more of a supportive role, rather'n us asking'm to juke, gyre, and gymble his way all over Hell's creation and aggravate his Injury again ~ he was, and that's just fine with me ~ but that didn't stop'm from throwing the key Block on what was probably my favorite Team Blocking Play of the day!!

At 31:45 on your Tape, the Patriots were on their 3rd Drive, late in the 1st Quarter of the still scoreless tie, having advanced into Jets territory with a 2nd & 10 from the New York 32. The Navigator was lined up on our extreme Left Flank, but off the Line, so I guess that's as a Flanker, as opposed to a Split End alignment...But we sent'm In Motion, and just before the Ball was snapped, he hunkered down between the Left Split End and the Left Tackle.

He wasn't standing up in On Your Mark position, so I'm not calling that Slot End, a al Wes Welker's specialty.

And he didn't put'is hand on the ground, so I'm not calling that Left Wing ~ Wing Back.

He was in a crouch, like a MidFielder ~ LineBacker, to you Earthlings ~ so I'm calling'm a Slot Back.

It was beautiful. At the Snap, Hernandez drove right through Center ~ as Ryan Wendell headed upfield ~ and hit Muhammad Wilkerson, who was driving right through Center himself, trying to clobber Shane Vereen, to whom Tom Brady'd just handed the ball for a surge up the Middle.

Hernandez made a terrific Block, getting a great angle on Wilkerson, and the guy never had a chance. So then with Donald Thomas sealing the Left Wall and Hernandez sealing the Right Wall, Vereen blasted right up the Middle, cut to'is right, and picked up another pile of Yards, thanks to Wendell's downfield Block on Safety Eric Smith, and even more so due to Marcus Cannon's impressive downfield Block on the athletic and powerful David Harris.

Vereen racked up 12 Yards on that masterfully Blocked and beautifully Run Play, another 10 on a FaceMask, and the Patriots suddenly had 1st & Goal at the 10. At that moment, it really felt like we were taking charge of this Game.

What I Saw

Frankly, I'd've been just as happy to see Hernandez rest up completely, and save it for the big Games against the Miners and Planet Hoosten...But the psychological element of FootBall is utterly crucial, and like they say: Everybody is banged up, all the time. If you ~ as a Coach, as a Player, as a Team ~ pursue anything short of an "If the bone isn't actually piercing the skin, you're ready to play." mentality, you risk undermining and indeed destroying the very Warrior Mentality that every Player ~ and every Team ~ needs to survive, much less compete for a Championship.

It's a Fine Line.

Aaron The Navigator has a chance to be one of the more uniquely Revolutionary Players this Game's ever seen.

And he can't do so by getting babied.

Nor would he want that.

I just pray that the dings don't add up to rob'm of his absolutely breathtaking Navigational skills.

You see: I believe that his very best Work ~ the truly phenomenal part of'is Career ~ is yet to come.

wow... I think this is the first OTG thread without a troll on it... Anyone heard from fourthandgoal lately? Haven't seen him since the 23 straight wins thread.

Great work as usual OTG. Keep it up.

Thank Ye kindly, my Friend. :)

Once again, it is those who I most enjoy reading the work of who are offering kind words, and I must say that that is highly gratifying. Thank you, Gents.

Saw VII ~ Daniel Fells "ParkWay!!" :D

Enjoy the Game, Brethren!! Go, Patriots!! To VICTORY!!

:rocker:

Daniel Fells "Parkway"

455816733.jpg

1 ~ Daniel Fells "Parkway" got'is first Snap on our second Play from Scrimmage, lined up at Left Slot Back in a crouch. Aaron Hernandez was lined up outside'm but in front'f'm, in a 3 Point Stance, at Left Flex End.

Well, before the Snap, Tom Brady audibled and changed the Formation, having Fells move forward to classic Left Tight End, with Hernandez stepping back to a classic Left Wing Back alignment, both'f'm in 3 Point Stances.

The Patriots ran a Run Play, going Off Left Tackle, with Hernandez and Fells forging the Outside Wall, Nate "Universal" Solder forging the Inside Wall, and Dan Connolly pulling from the right side to lead Stevan Ridley through the Hole. However, Connolly, who is usually very effective at Pulling, got driven back by an explosive surge by Mike MidFielder David Harris at the Point of Attack.

It was our man Fells who saved the Play, taking on one of my Alpha Binkies from this year's Draft, the ferocious Demario Davis, and managing, after a grim, desperate struggle, to carve out just enough daylight, between him and the recoiling Connolly, for Ridley to charge through for a 5 Yard Gain.

2 ~ At 10:20 on your Tape ~ our 1st Play on our 2nd Possession, in a scoreless Tie ~ Fells line up in a crouch at Right Slot Back, with Hernandez to'is outside in a 3 Point Stance at Right Flex End. These two would see a lot of this Alignment in this Game, on either side of the Formation.

Prior to the Snap, Fells went In Motion, and then dropped into the BackField to set up as Full Back.

On the Snap, Fells charged through Center, Donald Thomas and Dan Connolly went to work sealing the Outsides, and Ryan Wendell surged upfield in search of Targets, as Tom Brady handed the ball to Stevan Ridley, who followed Wendell and Fells up the Middle.

Fells met none other than the feared and ferocious Bart Scott, as both Players arrived at The Point of Attack with terrific positioning and a full Head of Steam...and Fells drove Scott 5 Yards downfield, gashing open an Hole, and allowing Ridley to bulldoze his way for 9 Big Ones!! Extremely impressive.

Possibly the best single Block of the Day.

What I Saw

Fells saw the great majority of the Snaps, often lining up as Slot Back with Hernandez just outside'f'm at Flex End, but also playing straight Tight End, going In Motion, and dropping into the BackField as Full Back.

Fells exerted a major Impact on the outcome of this Game, as the Coaches clearly ~ and justifiably ~ trusted him to repeatedly Block at The Point of Attack. He was consistently successful, there, and sometimes spectacular, such as on that Play when he drove Bart Scott 5 Yards downfield early in the Game.

As a Receiver, he was far less impressive, dropping an early Slant that could've racked up some Yards, and looking a bit stiff and robotic, later on, when he did convert a Slant ~ I think that's the Play!! ~ for 24 Yards.

That didn't do much to dampen my enthusiasm about this performance, though: Fells is every bit the mediocre Receiver that I thought'm to be, but really opened my eyes with his Core Strength, Core Power, and Fluidity in the Blocking Game. This is a guy who I would trust in Battle, if we need'm to step up again, as he did in this Game.

What I Saw ~ Week 12 ~ 1st Quarter GameTape!!

1 ~ 04:40 on your Tape ~ Dolphin Opening Drive. I was ecstatic to see my boy Trevor Scott finally get substantial playing time. I was ecstatic with Mad Bill's acquisition of'is services in the offseason, and even though he rapidly became a forgotten man around here, what with the sudden and shocking development of phenomenal Depth of Talent at a position ~ Dragoon: Defensive End/"OutSide LineBacker" to you Earthlings!! ~ that we've so very recently suffered years of privations at...I never flinched for a second on my high expectations of the importance of his unusual blend of Talent, Experience, and Versatility to this Defense. The Fish would go 3 & Out. That was mostly due to their own difficulties, but every Man on our Defense did'is Job well, and that, of course, is half the Battle.

2 ~ 06:45 on your Tape ~ After that sweet 3 & Out, the Fish tried to Punt, and botched it badly. I must confess: I've given Short Shrift ~ whatever that is ~ to Mad Bill's propensity for investing valuable Roster spots on Special Teamers. And I stand by that. But the Dolphins didn't just botch a Punt...they were made to botch it: The way those guys ~ our guys ~ were jumping around and tweaking the Formation before the Kick ~ the Energy and Intensity and the clear, raging purposefulness that they exuded as they boiled around, before the Snap ~ made it crystal clear that they were About Business: This is a Special Teams Crew that is not Going Through The Motions, as many do. Using The Whole Pig also means squeezing every ounce of potential Excellence out of every second of every Game...and nobody understands that Truth more completely than does Coach Bill Belichick, MadMan. His boys are trained to make the most of every Second...and that Intensity and Sense of Purpose can be intimidating.

I felt that.

Before the Snap.

And I guarantee you: Both John Denney ~ Miami's Long Snapper ~ and Brandon Fields ~ their Punter ~ were acutely aware of it...and that is why ~ forgive me for pointing it out, boys ~ they both choked.

Intimidation.

And as Matt Slater, Tracy White, and Niko Koutouvides ~ 3 Specialists the retention of whose Services I have admittedly rolled my eyes at on occasion ~ rapidly descended on poor Mister Fields with boiling, bloodthirsty intent...it became clear that Mister Fields's judgment in being intimidated...was quite appropriate.

12 Yards later, Mad Mac, Brady, and Company maxed out the Opportunity, cashing in all 7 Points.

Our eventual Margin of Victory.

3 ~ At 15:05, with Miami starting their 2nd Drive with a 1st & 10 from their own 20, they tried to run it up the Middle, and got crushed: Brandon Spikes was The Man on that Play, brutally beating back 345 Pound Right Guard John Jerry, while Brandon Deaderick ~ a surprise Start, today!! ~ shredded the Dolphin Right Wall, leaving Reggie Bush only the prayer of a surge up the Middle between Jerry's fat ass and Left Guard Richie Incognito, who was trying like Hell to forge a Left Wall for Bush against...Vince Wilfork.

Wilfork stood Incognito up, waited for'is moment...and then surged forward and planted Bush for a 2 Yard Loss.

But that's an old story, around here.

The rest of the Defense intrepidly Does Its Job and selflessly sacrifices.

And Vince Wilfork just swoops in and racks up the Glory Stats.

Haw.

The 2nd Dolphin Drive never quite recovered from this Play...and the Patriots D racked up another 3 & Out.

4 ~ At 20:55, with the Patriots still up, 7-0, and with a 3rd & 10 on their own 26, Brady tossed one dowfield to Julian Edelman, who made a terrific leaping Catch to pick up 13 and Move The Chains at a critical early juncture.

5 ~ At 21:30, on the ensuing 1st Down, "Uncanny" Danny WoodHead made a tremendous little Play, as he so often does, the kind that makes an enormous difference to the Bottom Line, but which the Announcers usually just ignore, as indeed they did: The Patriots lined up in Trips Right ~ I almost sound like I have a clue what I'm talking about, don't I?? ~ Strong Side Left, with Uncanny Danny lined up at TailBack. Nate "Universal" Solder pulled on this Play, rolling Right and charging right up the Middle, between Center and Right Guard...into a Wall of Fish.

Fortunately, this is why we pay Uncanny Danny that ludicrously bloated Salary: Blessed as he is with Lightning Level Processing Speed and the Balls of a Lion ~ to say nothing of the phenomenal Ricochet one needs in order to take advantage of these fine Attributes ~ WoodHead redirected'imself on the fly, jigged Left, and charged upfield between Left Guard Donald Thomas and Right Guard Dan Connolly ~ Center Ryan Wendell was attacking, upfield ~ and plowed between a couple of Dolphins who each have at least 100 Pounds on'm, and picked up 5 Big Ones on 1st Down.

This would Jump Start an 11 Play Drive that would ultimately net no Points, when Stephen Gostkowski missed a 49 Yarder...but all FootBall Games are Field Position Games. And thanks in tremendous part to Uncanny Danny's Vision, Athleticism, and Balls, we Moved The Chains, beat the Fish up a little, and almost racked up 3 key Points.

In FootBall, Little Things mean Everything.

6 ~ At 21:50 ~ the very next Play, 2nd & 5 from our own 44 ~ the Patriots went right back to WoodHead on an exquisitely developed Screen Pass, one that should have gone for at least 20 or 30 Yards, and maybe a Score.

When Brady chucked it to Uncanny Danny in the Flat, he was able to roll downfield with no less than 3 Grizzlies in front'f'm, fully positioned to plow the roads and clear a Path to 56 Yard TouchDown Glory.

Left Guard Donald Thomas was out ahead'f'm on his Left, Center Ryan Wendell was clearing a path directly in front'f'm, and Right Guard Dan Connolly had'is Right Flank: Everybody in front of these Grizzlies was giving up 100 Pounds, each. There was every reason to think that WoodHead was about to sail to Six.

But Wendell got beat, as Mike MidFielder Karlos Dansby slipped past Wendell's left and outflanked him.

And Connolly got annihilated, as Free Safety Jimmy Wilson simply waved Connolly away, tore after WoodHead, unabated, and made the Tackle. Connolly looked pretty damned stiff on that Play, let me tell you.

Perhaps he should've sat this one out. This is why I'm always preaching the vital importance of Depth of Talent at Offensive Guard, possibly the most underrated Position on the entire Field.

Uncanny Danny racked up 11 Big Ones and Moved The Chains...but we might've racked up six really Big Ones, if our Interior Offensive Linemen commanded the Core Power and Fluidity that I always scream and shout about.

As such, the Drive would eventually bog down and result in a missed Field Goal.

Something to think about, is all: Presumptuous and unsolicited advice to my FootBall God, Bill The Mad (Genius).

7 ~ "Wild" Wes Welker is ridiculously good.

8 ~ 29:55 ~ Miami 1st & 10 on our 49 ~ we were very lucky that they didn't rack up a Big Six on that one.

I'm loving what I'm seeing from Aqib Talib, so far, but I mean that only in the context of projecting his Growth and that of our Secondary and our Defense: He still has a ways to go, as does our Secondary, and this was another Growing Pain that we were simply lucky to get away with.

Even so: Luck flows both ways, and tends to even out in the end. Our Defense set a very strong early Tone.

9 ~ 31:10 ~ 2 Plays later, on 3rd & 6 from our 45, Ryan TanneHill ~ who's future I am very high on, even though I said, this Spring, that he was highly overrated as a 1st Rounder ~ dropped back to pass...and then Vince Wilfork deftly punched Richie Incognito aside ~ deftly punched the 320 Pound Incognito aside, I say!! ~ and immediately gave young TanneHill serious second thoughts about his choice to switch from Wide Receiver, 2 short years ago!!

Incompletion.

Punt.

Nice.

10 ~ 34:30 ~ The Patriots took over on their own 3 after the Punt, with Dan Connolly taking the rest of the day off, which I was happy to see: Let the man heal, I say. Nick McDonald stepped in at Right Guard.

11 ~ 35:05 ~ After Stevan Ridley grunted out 2 Yards for 2nd & 8 from our 5, Brady dropped one into The Flat for my boy Aaron The Navigator...and he looked remarkably and wonderfully healthy and spry, gyring & gymbling Will MidFielder Kevin Burnett out'f'is shorts, before roaring past'm for 20 Big Ones!!

12 ~ 35:45 ~ 1st & 10 from our 25. This was the Interception. Hernandez was perfectly covered, and the throw was a bad one. It was just a mistake, is all, and I'm not going to belabor the point: Even Tom Brady makes'm.

The Pats Defense did a terrific job ~ again ~ to hold the Fish to 3 Points after that.

It could've been a big Jump Start for them...but our Defense squelched them.

Nice.

End of the 1st Quarter: Patriots with a 7-3 lead over their scrappy Divisional Rivals.

***

I'll hit the 2nd Quarter tomorrow, Gents.

All this and a Jabberwocky reference too ...

:youtheman:

Tobacky or tobacky-substitute.

Exactly.

This isn't a classic Crazy-@$$ Off The Grid lunatic Speculative...well, at least not as I see it!! :p

It's just a ~ well, it's a CHAW...Simple, mundane FootBall chatter, focused on The Trenches, for the most part, and what goes on, thereabouts...

Nothing spectacular or inspiring.

Just something to chew over at your leisure...if you choose to.

Like I said: Most folks ~ in this Maddenized Fantasy Football Era ~ won't give a rat's @$$ about these comments...But those who can't HELP themselves but think about FootBall 24/7/365.25...might enjoy sinking their teeth into these comments, and maybe adding their own. That's all. Nothing crazy.

What I Saw ~ Week 12 ~ Q2 GameTape!!

1 ~ At 57:50 on your Tape, with the Score still 7-3 Patriots, we'd advanced down to the Fish 31, with a 2nd & 10.

Brady hit Hernandez in The Left Flat, and ~ Praise the Gods ~ Aaron The Navigator put a beautiful move on Corner RJ Stanford, and left'm in the dust!! 13 Yards and a 1st Down.

One of the most startling developments of this Game was My Man Hernandez, one Game removed from the DL, playing every single one of 79 offensive Snaps!! Not only that, but he looked exquisitely fluid, out there, both on this Play, and on another, earlier on in the 1st Quarter. I presume nothing ~ and I pray to the Gods for'is Health ~ but it looks like Aaron The Navigator, in all his Navigational Splendor, is suddenly, awesomely, magnificently....back!!

2 ~ Again, and with Feeling: Wild Wes Welker is amazing.

The Best Slot End Who Ever Lived, Bar None.

3 ~ At 01:01:35, 2nd & Goal from the 7, the Fish Blitzed, and the Play the Pats called was simply a Work Of Art:

The Announcers called it a Slip Screen, and that certainly describes the Play: Tom Brady took a quick step back, Uncanny Danny WoodHead blocked the blitzing Mike MidFielder Carlos Dansby just enough, and Brady flicked a quick Out to Wild Wes Welker, waiting in the Right Flat. Brandon Lloyd was already laying a strong Block, downfield, on Free Safety Jimmy Wilson, and both Ryan Wendell and Sebastian Vollmer slipped through the blitzing Fish out to the second level...where they basically laid down the Red Carpet for Welker, who cut sharply to the center of the Field...and flew, unabated, to the End Zone. 14-3.

4 ~ 01:05:15 ~ Kitty.

Yum.

5 ~ At 01:08:50, the Fish had a 3rd & 4 at their own 26, and when Ryan TanneHill dropped back to throw, my boy Trevor Scott launched a great charge from Left End, pushed Nate Gardner inside, and blasted TanneHill, not only getting the Sack but forcing the Ball out for a Fumble that bounced right to Vince Wilfork's waiting hands!!

I have been a staunch advocate of Trevor Scott from the day we got'm, and've been praying for'm to get a legitimate chance to show'is stuff. This would prove to be a great day for this highly underrated young Veteran.

6 ~ At 01:10:00, Brother Vince, quite chivalrously, presents His Lady, Fair Bianca, with a Trophy, Spoils of War!!

7 ~ Gotta give Props to the Fish Defense: they picked up a big Sack and then held us to a Field Goal.

The way things were going, then, we were on the brink of simply blowing them away.

But that Defensive Stand kept them in the Game.

8 ~ More Props: The Fish then put together a very impressive 12 Play/80 Yard TouchDown Drive to close out the Half and cut our lead in half, digging themselves out'f a 1st & 25 from their own 5 at the very outset of the Drive to do so: The PlayCalling was eclectic and unpredictable, and the Patriots have nothing to be ashamed of, despite allowing the Fish to drive 95 Yards for a Score: This was all about Miami's excellent PlayCalling and Execution.

OK, then, Mitch (Mad Mitch? Mitch the Mad Axeman? Mitch "Chateau" -- no, that one's way too obscure) Petrus is now officially a binkie. May the good Lord help him!

No sooner said than done! OL Mitch Petrus released. Mr Petrus, I owe you a drink (though I can't afford Chateau P!) :(

Too bad. "Chateau Petrus" would have been one for the ages. Oh well ... I guess Dante felt that bottle was corked.

"Tu es Petrus et super hanc petram aedificabo ecclesiam meam."

I love that play as much as any other play in the game. This play equals very good news if he can keep improving. You would normally think that without Cunningham and Jones they lose big play ability on that side, but nope. Really nice showing.

I'll call him Great Scott and only old guys will know where that term/name came from.

What I Saw ~ Week 12 ~ 3rd Quarter GameTape!!

1 ~ At 01:47:15, on the Opening Drive of the 2nd Half, we had a 2nd & 10 at our own 20. Nothing spectacular happened on this Play, but I found it utterly awesome, anyway, because it continued a beloved trend that's been Born Again, this year, for the first time, really, since Corey Dillon's rapid decline in 2005: Using The Whole Pig!!

The Announcers'd just mentioned that the Patriots were a miserable 8 for 10 on the Ground in the first Half.

And of course: we were at 2nd & 10.

For most of the last 7 years, the Patriots would've consequently gone with a Pass ~ probably out'f a Spread ~ on that 2nd & 10, and pretty much abandoned the Run for the rest of the day. And it's not as if there haven't been days this Year ~ and this, in fact, was one'f'm ~ when we saw far too much Passing ~ 44 Attempts against the Dolphins ~ and far too much Spread for my taste: I'm certainly not advocating for taking the air out'f the Ball or anything, and The Spread is an invaluable part of our complex Arsenal. But when we allow the Passing Game to dominate our PlayCalling, 3 things happen, none'f them good:

1 ~ Tom Brady gets beat up and worn out, leaving'm battered and bruised by the time the PlayOffs start.

2 ~ Years of that will not only make him less effective when we need'm most, but will also shorten his Career.

3 ~ The Offense becomes Predictable, allowing teams like the Giants to tee off on us and attack our weakest, most vulnerable points, rather then us keeping them constantly off balance: Predictability means we play Offense in fear. Unpredictability means that we drive the Enemy before us and listen to the Lamentations of their women!! Hah!!

So when the Patriots handed the ball of to Stevan "You May Fire When Ready" Ridley on 2nd & 10, at that point, I was far more pleased than the average Fan, I suspect!!

And it was a damned good Play, against a tough Dolphins Defense: Daniel Fells "Parkway" aligned at Right Tight End, Aaron The Navigator next to'm at Right Wing Back, and both attacked downfield, while Left Guard Donald Thomas pulled from the left side and charged downfield between Fells and Right Tackle Sebastian The Cruel.

Everyone did a solid job on their Blocks, including Wild Wes Welker on the outside, and Ridley himself made a nice Cut between Welker on the Outside and Fells & Hernandez on the inside to surge downfield and rack up 7 Big Ones.

We'd go 3 & Out on the next Play, but an enormous step forward had been taken: Mad Mac, Brady, and Company had announced that the Run was not going to be abandoned...And that we had the full capacity to punish the Fish with it, if we were so inclined.

We would only score 6 Points the entire 2nd Half, as the Game became a War of Attrition...But after going 8 for 10 in the Running Game in the 1st Half, we racked it up for 24 Carries and 98 Yards in the 2nd Half.

Not spectacular.

Just...victorious.

Perhaps the most encouraging Aspect of these 2012 New EngLand Patriots is that one gets increasingly confident that we can and will win these Wars of Attrition, an Attribute all too often absent in our team over the last 7 Years.

For all the blather about this "Passing League", you usually do need to be able to win those, to go all the way.

We've got a ways to go...But the way we grunted this one out was evocative of that tough, scrappy Dynasty team.

2 ~ At 01:51:00, with the Fish starting their first Possession at 1st & 10 on their 23, my man Brandon Spikes got the Defense's Half off to a strong start, facing down Reggie Bush on a 1 on 1 up the middle, and stuffing'm for but a 1 Yard Gain. And it certainly didn't hurt Spikes's chances that Dolphins Center Mike Pouncey fell on'is face and rolled into Bush's path as Spikes corralled'm!! Hah!!

3 ~ At 01:51:35, on the next Play, the Fish were looking at 2nd & 9 from their 24...and my man Brandon Spikes made another great Play, this time in Pass Defense ~ Yes!! Brandon Spikes made a Play in Pass Defense, Haters!! ~ timing the Pass perfectly, stepping right in front of Anthony Fasano and thwacking Ryan TanneHill's Pass!!

One Play later, it was 3 & Out.

The Defensive Tone for the 2nd Half had been set...Thanks, above all, to Brandon Spikes.

4 ~ At 02:03:30, on the next Fish Possession, the Fish had a 1st & 10 at their own 42. My boy Kyle Arrington came tearing in from the Slot on a Corner Blitz, and ripped TanneHill to the ground!! TanneHill absolutely panicked, tossing the ball downfield, and was lucky he didn't get Intercepted. Great PlayCall by Coach Patricia.

Arrington has gotten a lot of crap, this Year. And I don't dispute that he hasn't had'is best Year.

But it seems very likely, considering Mad Bill's penchant ~ a very wise one ~ for keeping Bumps & Bruises as close to the vest as possible...that Kyle Arrington didn't play the first two months or so at 100%, or nearly close to it.

I mean: He didn't suddenly get old, right?

Chances are: Something undisclosed was holding'm up, slowing'm down.

And he's been light years better, the last few weeks...hasn't he??

...Almost as if he's worked'is way back to full Health.

I maintain that Kyle Arrington is not only a tough, scrappy, classic Patriot, and nasty against the Run, which is invaluable to a Championship Defense..But that his Verticity, his Processing Speed, and his Burst is far better than he's being given credit for, lately.

I see'm as a vital part of this team ~ which I've never wavered on, thank you!! ~ and hope he plays here for a long time...But at the same time, I like'm far better ~ as I've always said ~ as a Slot Corner or even at Dime!!

5 ~ At 02:04:10 ~ The very next Play, with the Fish looking at 2nd & 10 ~ Vince Wilfork continued to assert his Dominance, barreling through Richie Incognito and then just destroying Daniel Thomas, for a 4 Yard Loss!!

6 ~ At 02:08:10, after the Fish punted, the Patriots were backed up to their own 2, 1st & 10. And I'll tell you: I didn't see much'f an Hole where Stevan Ridley chose to run it, through the left side. But he somehow managed to surge through and rack up 5 Big Ones on a critical 1st Down. I'm a big Fan of what our O Line has managed to accomplish, despite the myriad of hardships it's been beset with, this year...but that play was all Ridley!!

And that wasn't the first time.

Consequently, we were able to grunt our way to a 1st Down, two Plays later. A Little Thing, perhaps, but I maintain that in FootBall, Little Things mean a great deal, and especially so in a War of Attrition such as this afternoon's Battle with the Bad Fish: Had we gone 3 & Out after getting squeezed down to our own 2 Yard Line, the Fish would've had themselves a boatload of Momentum...and that might've ultimately proved fatal.

7 ~ At 02:15:55, the Fish had a 2nd & 10 from our 49. Here I have to give long-overdue Props to Coach Patricia and'is consistently unpredictable PlayCalling: This was a pivotal moment, here, with the Dolphins still enjoying the advantageous Field Position they'd earned on their previous Possession, but ~ at 2nd & 10 ~ quickly in danger of losing a great deal of their Advantage.

What I loved about this was that, rather than going Bend But Don't Break, the Patriots ~ as they have started to do increasingly, since the pivotal acquisition of Aqib Talib, much to my delight!! ~ made another aggressive and unexpected move, sending in Steve Gregory on a Safety Run Blitz!! He tore upfield and blew the play up, and then my man Rob Ninkovich finished it off, stuffing Reggie Bush for a critical 3 Yard Loss. Nice.

One Play later, it was a vital 3 & Out.

These forgotten Games ~ these forgotten 3 & Outs ~ are where Championships are forged.

8 ~ 02:17:50. Kitties.

9 ~ 02:18:15. Patriots with a 1st & 10 from their own 20 on the ensuing Punt. Another Little Thing That Means a Lot: The Patriots run it to the Right Side. The Blocking is pretty good, all told, but Super Beast Paul Soliai is driving Ryan Wendell directly into "Shattering" Shane Vereen's Path. Vereen ~ who's Explosiveness has only been glimpsed, so far, my Friends ~ instantaneously Ricochets off'is right foot and Bursts downfield towards the Center of the Line, and claws out 4 Big Ones on a Play that should've netted'm Zero.

So much for my man Vereen being only an "outside" Runner.

2 Plays later, we Move The Chains.

This is when it happens, Gentlemen.

And this is how it happens.

10 ~ 02:19:50. Patriots with a 1st & 10 from the 32, after Aaron The Navigator makes a nice Play to get the first Down, 2 Plays after Vereen's Run. Picking up a little steam after Moving The Chains, the Patriots lay down some terrific Team Blocking, and manage to crank open up a skinny little Hole for Uncanny Danny WoodHead, off the left side...and WoodHead just tears through it, racking up 13 Big Ones for a 1st Down!!

Huge play.

That sequence really got us going against this tenacious Defense.

11 ~ 02:21:10. Patriots with another 1st & 10, this at the Dolphin 44, and gaining Confidence with every fresh set of Downs!! "Shattering" Shane Vereen took it up the middle, and looked stopped for a 1 Yard Gain...but he shook the Defender, bounced it outside to the Left and scratched up 2 more.

Again: Little things.

Getting stuffed on 1st Down would've taken some'f the air out'f our Momentum...But when your O Back scrapes and claws for everything he can get ~ and subsequently gives you far better options at 2nd & 7 than at 2nd & 9 ~ it's inspiring to the other 10 guys out there...and to the entire Team.

This is when It Happens.

I get a nosebleed from reading your posts.
