We've had this discussion elsewhere here recently. This is an OpEd piece - OpEd articles are the opinion of the author only - not of the newspaper and each newspaper so states plainly on it's OpEd page.

Here's a nice civil OpEd piece on The Tea Party:

Anger and Frustration in Tea Party Voices - The Caucus Blog - NYTimes.com

    And another:

?The System Is Broken? - More From a Poll of Tea Party Backers - NYTimes.com

And still another, basically factual, OpEd article about The Tea Party:

Poll Finds Tea Party Backers Wealthier and More Educated - NYTimes.com

Like I said, though, OpEd is simply the author's opinion - and not the opinion of the newspaper it's printed in.

    The NY Times OpEd policy:

The Op-Ed page is a venue for people with a wide range of perspectives, experiences and talents. Some of the people who appear in this space have written a lot; others haven't. If we published only people who needed no editing, we'd wind up relying on only a very narrow range of professional writers, and the page would be much the worse for it.

So what's the agenda? A lively page of clashing opinions, one where as many people as possible have the opportunity to make the best arguments they can.

So the newspaper with no blacks on the board finds it useful to use opeds written by blacks ... that reminds me of the blacks picking cotton for the white rich plantation owners. come on Mrs. PF ... you're too intelligent not to see there is no diversity at the top of these 3 companies ... yet they routinely find space in their media to bash the tea party for not being diverse. Regardless of political affiliation ... that is indefensible IMO.

    Ohh ... it's oped ... that's not us ...
... bet high school kids who have not been brain washed can even see through that ploy.

there is no defense ... no defense at all for companies yelling racism who don't at least touch the minimum parameters of social diversity with respect to minorities, women and/or both.

None ... nada ... zilch ... if your house is not clean then clean it before you criticize others.

This thread is not meant to exonerate anyone. The tea party should be a bit more diverse and perhaps they will be. But I refuse to even consider the opinion of a major media outlet whose leadership is white ... very, very white.

NY Times poll says the Tea Party is 89% white.

That makes the Tea Party 11% more diverse than the 100% whiteness of the NY Times board.

So it sounds like you're not refuting any of the claims on the Times's Op / Ed pages, just clamoring for more diversity among their Board of Directors. Sounds like librul quotas to me... ;)

I'm saying that people in glass houses should not throw stones.

I am shocked that in these times of diversity in this country ... all the gains we have achieved ... to see that these companies and any others out there should dare comment on diversity when they themselves are not at all diverse. Getting black people to write about diversity in oped pieces is a joke. Why not put a few of those intelligent black people on the board ... then throw all the stones you want.

Somebody read The Washington Examiner today, didn't they?

Tea Parties more diverse than New York Times board of directors | Washington Examiner

The thing both of you are missing is this: You're comparing two different things. In order for your comparison to be valid you'd have to compare the racial make-up of the entire workforce of The New York Times to the entire racial make-up of the membership of The Tea Party or racial make-up of The Board of Directors at the Times to the racial make-up of the Leadership of The Tea Party.

You cannot compare the leadership of one to the entire membership of the other and call a percentage difference valid.

You took 14 people on The Board of Directors (but ignored their entire employee base) and compared them to a random sampling of 1580 people (but ignored the leadership which would be comparable to "The Board of Directors" of The Tea Party) - and came up with a percentage conclusion????

    Talk about "cherry picking."

I just threw up in my mouth ... you are blind Mrs. PF ... blind loyalty I think they call it.

The thread was about the directors and the faces on the tube.

They are white ... very white.

If it makes you happy we can compare the Tea Party leadership with the media leadershp.

Guess what ... the pot is still as white as the kettle ... so you're theory still fails.

Well I guess plantation owners who supported their workers are now exonerated.
White ownership diversified with black workers ... diversity at work.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

So does yours - and you were the only one with a "theory," Icy. (Well you and the newspaper which put the words into your head and thread.)

It has nothing to do with "theory." I was not denying that the board on The Times is all white - I was pointing out that you can't say a membership of a group has a higher percentage of blacks than the board of a newspaper and expect people to think it's the same thing.

If we do as I suggested and compare the leaderships of both organizations you're right - they're both lily white. Which doesn't make The Times right - but it does make you (and your theory of percentages) wrong.

I don't have a pony in this race - I'm not denying the racial make up of The Board of Directors of the Times - I'm not defending them or making excuses for them or anything else of the sort - I'm simply pointing out that you've made a very faulty assumption and that it's not valid and it's not believable and it looks very much like a desperate ploy to shift attention elsewhere.

Now if you can tell me that The Times doesn't employ any black people or that only 11% of the readership of The Times is black then you'll have a point. Or if can tell me that 11% of the leadership of The Tea Party is black - then you've made your case.

In the meantime, you've made broad accusations (NYT is bashing the Tea Party) which were not born out by fact but based upon one OpEd piece.

    Tsk Tsk.
