I don't want to miss it live. But my soccer team (I'm the coach, not a player - too old for that) has practice from 8:30-9:30 eastern - am I gonna miss this thing ?

I believe it is a little past 10, as the networks go live at 10pm EST.

Excellent. I may miss some of the prelims, I'd like to see Romney, but it sounds like I'm good to go on the Main Event.

    :)

I said I want to watch it live. DVR = not live. I do have a DVR but just a cheap Wal Mart one. I need the DirecTV built in one but I'm too cheap to pay the $5 extra a month

Speaking of which, does anybody know if McCain is planning on waiting until the Giants game is over.

Actually, I heard he was waiting for you to call him, and let him know when you're ready, so he'll know when to begin. :D

    Haha.

It is a legit question. A lot of people (aka voters) will be watching the game. If he starts before the game is over and NBC doesn't switch a lot of folks don't see is speech. If they do switch there could be some backlash from angry football fans, particularly if the game is close.

I'm not sure McCain's speech is that important. Everyone knows him and there's three debates. Palin's was much more important, though she's going for a lesser office, to introduce herself to the country.

I will agree that he is better known than Palin or Obama.

But he is running on the top of the ticket.

I won't say his speech is as important as Obama's was for him, but it is more important than Palin's. The "undecided" didn't watch the republican Iowa debates on C-span.

I doubt it. The MSM and their minions would blast him for being more concerned with football than the nation. Does anybody really think he's going to carry NY or DC anyway?
If the game is still on when he
s scheduled to speak, NBC would probably run a scroll telling people to turn to MSNBC or some affiliate to see the speech. Thery could always run it on tape delay but I doubt they would do that.

I hear ya. I was just trying to poke some fun. My guess is that he'll speak during the game, since it won't be over till after 11pm. 11pm works as a starting time on the west coast (8pm there), but on the east coast it's far too late. I could be wrong, but I'd say he goes off closer to the time we've been seeing, which is somewhere around 10pm EST. I'll be bouncing back and forth I guess.

Actually since posting I have found the answer.

Game starts at 7:07. It was original scheduled to begin at 8:30 but it was rescheduled to 7 at the request of RNC. (total speculation- maybe that was the deal that go Spector to end the spygate matter -- happened around same time)

NBC will show the game in its entity regardless of how long the game goes and regardless if McCain starts speaking. They are required by contract and nobody wants another "Heidi game."

The avg. length of a regular season game last year was 3:03 mins.

NBC will switch as soon as the game ends.

It is speculated that McCain will wait until NBC begins its convention coverage. Unless the game goes to overtime this won't be a problem for McCain.
