Bill's moves at QB in the last 10 years have proven you must develop your own QB talent if at all possible and have them ready.

Brady was #2 after one year.
Cassel was #2 after one year.
O'Connell was #2 last year, and will be #2 this year.

If they bring in a vet, it'll be to mentor O'Connell, not to be the #2.

Always forget about Matt Guitterez. Yep we are set. 3 Qb's who all have had time in the system.

I happen to like Matt myself, but i get jumped on for some reason for mentioning him, so I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Two years in the system and looked great against the backups of other teams in limited action.

Can't help but thinking, the Pats liked Brady and drafted him in the sixth round.
The Pats liked what they saw in Cassel and drafted him in the seventh round.
The Pats just couldn't pass up on O'Connell with the 'third' pick in the draft.
Not saying he'll be better then the other two, but dang!

My guess is BB finds some vet for training camp/preseason to mentor the young guys but cuts him after the last exhibition game. Maybe it'll even be Vinny T. again.

Right, given Bill's historical frugality with past QB picks, I'm thinking Belichick must think that O'Connell's ceiling is a John Elway type skill set with Montana's vision and clutchess and Brady's leadership

Or, more simply, 2007 Brady as a passer + 2008 Cassel as a rusher.

We'll probably pick up a vet backup QB after cutdowns. But I think right now that the Pats focus on acquiring the big pieces - IE Secondary help and an OLB to replace Vrabel.

Not really. I can budge off of #3, but 2 1/2 is my best and final offer.
