Through 7 games, I am impressed with the improvements the Pats have made with this young secondary out there. They are playing like a completely different unit out there as opposed to last year.

NFL passing defense stats has the Pats ranking relatively high in all categories:

    7th in completion percentage: 56.5%
6th in passing yd average: 176.3yds/gm
    8th in passing plays of 20 yds+
Tied for 4th in yardage per completion avg: 6.2 yds per catch
Passing defense 3rd in points allowed at 14 point per game

    It's stellar.

Edit: Oh, and we'll pass up the Saints in terms of points, as of tonight. :singing:

Sixth coming into today. I'm sure we'll be moving on up in that. Our run defense was ranked 20th though.

this thread should be brought back to life after we finish the indy, jets,NO stretch

if were still positive, it means that yea, this pass defense is pretty good....

right now, i think it may have serious problems that our advesaries havnt been able to exploit....

the QB's weve faced include a HOF list of edwards, sanchez, ryan, flacco, kollins/young, orton, freeman/johnson

after we face 2 of the top 3 in the NFL, hopefully we can say weve held up pretty well

Ryan and Flacco are nothing to laugh at. Granted, we weren't tip-top versus Flacco. But yeah, it would be nice to see how we fare against Brees and Manning.

Yep. I have a feeling that Dean Pees' job will be in jeopardy on these forums after one or more of those games.

3rd in points allowed per game behind Denver and Indy.

Our defense is actually ahead of Indy in terms of points per game allowed strictly by the defense. Brady has an INT returned for a TD and a strip sack for a TD. The Colts offense hasn't given up any TD's.

Taking out those 2 touchdowns our offense gave up and we've allowed 84 points over 7 games for 12 points per game. The Colts D is giving up 12.83 points per game. Denver is #1 at 11 points per game allowed.

Agree with your post, but the unit we had last year would get lit up with the qbs NE faced this year. This unit has responded well from what I've seen. The corners are looking much more competitive with receivers even when giving up underneath pass plays. Aside from the Denver game and that first quarter Derrick Mason had, the secondary has been a strength this year. Lots of room to improve, but worlds better than last year's unit

I agree, but it's also not like the Broncos are a cellar dweller team.

This defense is mostly young, and solid depth at tough to fill positions. Like Brady and his WRs, the defense seems to be picking it up a bit every single week.

I like our personnel, I don't like the playcalling. There are times when the calling is fine, times when it's mediocre and times when the opposing receiver is wide open, even on third and short.

The bend but don't break puts massive pressure on our offense, and I'm not sure this year's offense has been able to handle it; against crappy teams it's fine, but it tends not to work against better ones. I'm very worried about the Colts if this playcalling keeps up.

Come back and post this if they shut down Manning and Brees. However, at least they've made sorry QB's look like sorry QB's and not pro bowlers in season's past.

the way i see it they got some stats vs two team's that will have the #1 and #2 over all pick's in the draft

if they can hold payton manning and drew brees under 300 yerd's then ill say they are good but with out a pass rush i dont think they can

but as of right now i think they are ok and far better then last year

    #12 Jersey

Playing Brees and Manning will be a challenge, but this year's secondary is light years ahead of last years. They might still get lit up, but it's a definite improvement, and the young guys are getting better. There's still a lot of room for improvement, but they're already ahead of last year's group.

Not to mention Indy has played the easiest schedule I have ever seen assembled for any football team in 35 years of watching the NFL through the first 7 games.

The Rams today must felt like the Haverhill Hillies did on Friday night when they walked on the field to face Billerica. It's over before it even began.
