Has anyone ever signed a player who had been franchised?? I don't think it's ever happened.
Dallas did, trading two first round picks for WR Joey Galloway.
Jerry Jones decided to go all-in because he saw the window closing on his franchise quarterback. (Sound familiar?) Troy Aikman was nearing the need of his career, and the Cowboys gave up two first round picks for Galloway. Galloway had held out eight games the previous year for Seattle; for Dallas it had been five years since their last Super Bowl and they were coming off an 8-8 season and consecutive one-and-done playoff appearances.
The result for Dave Campo, the third Dallas head coach in four years? The first of three consecutive 5-11 seasons. It turned out to be Aikman's final year in the NFL. Galloway blew out his knee in the first game of the year, and Seattle used those two draft picks to select Shaun Alexander and Koren Robinson; a couple years later they went on to the playoffs five consecutive times.
