You know the saying, "it's a small world". Do you have an example ?

Mine happened today. I was born in England. I moved over here 29 years ago. This week my two boys were in a soccer camp with 10 English coaches. Someone asked the coach that one of mine had where he was from. He said "Leicestershire"; my ears perk up as that's where I was from. I asked where and he said Ashby-de-la-Zouch; which is exactly the small town I lived in. Population - 13,000.

So here I am in the CA desert and I run into someone from the tiny place I lived in England. Weird.

Can anyone match or beat that ? I'm sure someone can.

How's this for you BF, My mom is from Leicestershire, Yeovil Town to be exact, and my cousin went to Loughborough University.

When I was a little kid (lived in Sudbury) I used to go to the soccer camps where they imported all of the coaches from England. I forget what they were called but we even used to host a couple of them in our house.

Last year my wife (here in NH) dialed a wrong number and was connected to a classmate from HS living in Tennesee. He was a music geek and is now a famous concert violinist.

    I'd say that's a lower probability than mine - I think.

When I was in college, I was talking to a friend who was working at Wendys and he said they'd just hired a new kid from Cleveland (where I went to High School). Just to be stupid, I said "what's his name" and it was someone I went to high school with - and this was out in California.

Are you sure? (I don't think that there is a Yeovil in Leicestershire. There is one in Somerset.)

I like small world stories. It makes one feel connected.

The nurse who administered chemotherapy to my mother turned out to be the mother of a girl I had dated 5 years before that.

I ended up marrying that girl as a result of that reconnection.

Wow, the marrying part created a twist to that one.

Along the same lines when my Mom was in the hospital after cancer surgery, a volunteer nurse was coming to visit her; it turned out to be her next door neighbor.
