Here are some names that we may hear called in the late rounds and mostly never heard of them.

Julius Pruitt WR Ouachita Baptist 6'1 210 4.41
T.J. Williams WR Valdosta State 6'2 185 4.45
Roger Allen OG Missouri Western 6'3 326 5.46
Sam Allen OT Grand Valley St 6'5 280 5.18
Joel Bell, OT Furman 6'7 310 5.11

The guy to really keep an eye on is Bell. He has all the physical and intangibles. Needs a couple of years in an NFL program having lived overseas until college. But he could be a very solid LT.

Any others?

I don't think you're going to get anybody to look at a "Barwin free zone".

I'm thinking of asking Ian to rename this the Barwin forum.:D

How about...

Dan Skuta, Grand Valley State 6'3" 249 4.71
College DE being scouted primarily as a LB, said in an interview that he's hearing SAM from a lot of teams.

Is this like the Zach DeOssie free zone.

I saw Hartline play a few times (TV), seemed like a decent OL.

I've been on the Skuta watch with BOR for a few months.

I've got to go with my man Dudley Guice out of Northwestern State U., La.

Ten unheralded 2009 NFL Draft prospects - Don Banks - SI.com
1. Brigham Harwell, DT, UCLA
2. Vince Anderson, CB, Webber International University
3. Julian Edelman, QB, Kent State
4. Russell Allen, LB, San Diego State
5. Carson Butler, TE, Michigan
6. Greg Toler, CB, St. Paul's College
7. David Nixon, LB, BYU
8. Maurice Covington, WR, Virginia
9. Pat Cowan, QB, UCLA
10. E.J. Biggers, CB, Western Michigan

Just read this list earlier today .... for some reason, Cowan strikes me as a Pats-type pick. Living out in LA, I saw him a few times, and he seems like he has all the tools. With the injuries and playing second fiddle to USC out here, he's been largely ignored, but he could emerge into a player, no question.

Toler and Anderson would fit the small school sleeper. The others should have been noticed being at major D1 schools.

I just happened upon a 7-round small school mock from NFL Draft Bible. And what I found most interesting from a Pats perspective wasn't the mock itself -- but the first round prospects.

Eleven of the round one prospects are among the Pats workouts and visits list here.

The eleven:

ROUND ONE

  • 1- 1- 1 Detroit- DE/OLB Lawrence Sidbury (Visit)
  • 1- 2- 2 St. Louis- RB Rashad Jennings (Private Workout)
  • 1- 4- 4 Seattle- WR Johnny Knox (Private Workout & Visit)
  • 1- 5- 5 Cleveland- QB Rhett Bomar (Private Workout)
  • 1- 6- 6 Cincinnati- RB Bernard Scott (Private Workout)
  • 1- 7- 7 Oakland- OLB Jason Williams (Private Workout & Visit)
  • 1-10-10 San Francisco- QB Jason Boltus (Interview)
  • 1-14-14 New Orleans- CB Don Carey ((Private Workout & Interview)
  • 1-17-17 New York Jets- ILB Daniel Skuta (Rumored interest)
  • 1-18-18 Chicago- DT Sammie Lee Hill (Worked out individually at Pro Day)
  • 1-29-29 New York Giants- CB Gregory Toler (Private Workout)
Obviously the Pats seem to be interested in the cream of the crop, and I'm expecting a name or two to make it to camp.

Thoughts?
