We'll add our draftees and UDFA's. We 'll add veteran jags at the minimum. We'll have some minor extensions (e.g. Hochstein).

Then we'll still have about $14M to spend of net cap money. At what positions would you use the money?

We could have seven players at a $2.35M cap. Or we could have one less if we sign someone at a $4.35M cap number. Also, you could extend someone (other than Seymour who doesn't cost 2006 cap money to extend. Or you could sign two at $1.35M instead of one at $2.35M
    ==============================================

MY HOPE/PLAN FOR THE SEVEN CAP SPOTS
    1. kicker

2 and 3. (a top fa) wide receiver or linebacker

    4. linebacker

    5. corner

    6. quarterback AND wide receiver

    7. one extension (perhaps Koppen)

This needn't get all done before the draft. In fact it is likely that a couple will be doen after the draft and before camp.

Thanks for your thoughtful, well-reasond posts. From your list, I would vote for #'s 1, 2, and 3. A team needs guys who can make plays.

    Thoughtful and well-reasoned ... absolutely!

    But alas, not so well-figured:

    7 x 2.35 = 16.45

For about 14 mil, we could get either SIX @ 2.35 ... or SEVEN @ 2.00

    Two at 1.35 costs 2.7

A $2.35M player pushes a $.35M cap player from the Top 51, leaving a net cap effect of $2M for the transaction.

A $4.35M player also pushes a $.35M cap player out for a new cap effect of $4M for this transaction.

A $1.35M player pushes out a $.35M cap player out for a new cap effect of $1M.

So with $14M, we can choose from the above $2M, $4M and $1M NET CAP transactions.
