SI's Don Banks 2011 Underachieving team at 1/2 way point (3 Pats on list)

Exactly. If you want to say Suh is playing boneheaded because he's going to get himself suspended for a cheap shot, that's one thing. To say he's underachieving is silly.

Here's what Banks wrote about Suh:

For a guy who dominated games during his rookie season, Suh hasn't really delivered the same impact this year. You talk to NFL personnel evaluators and they'll tell you he's getting blocked out of plays more effectively this season and disappearing for stretches of games. The numbers bear this out: After his monster 10-sack, 66-tackle season of 2010, with three passes defensed, one interception and one forced fumble, Suh has just three sacks and 23 tackles in seven games, with no takeaways or passes defensed. Suh set the bar very high as a rookie, but he hasn't matched that production level in year two.

This is not the first time I've read that Suh is not performing up to what he did last year. Lots of guys struggle in their second year (see McCourty, Devin). With any of these guys, you have to wonder whether they can handle success, because once they stop working and studying to improve themselves, they can lose whatever competitive edge they had in a hurry.

Did you see the Lions/49ers game? Suh was getting absolutely blown up in the run game. And the stats don't lie, those Lions can't stop the run this season. King is spot on with that blurb you pointed out.

Gotta Love to see Bart Scott on that list though

CAN'T WAIT!!!
........to see him fail completely at LB

49ers rushed for 203 yards in 29 attempts - 7.0 yards per carry!

2009: 10 sacks
2010: 13.5 sacks
2011: on pace for 6-7 sacks

I call that underachieving. Though I've always felt the guy was overrated.
Maybe he gave Cushing his roids back...

Maybe Haynesworth will come around with some better performances like in sacks if he WANTS to play as dominant as he is capable of.

Ochocinco is done as anything more than a JAG 5th WR for depth IMO...I don't care if he has 10 years with the team,he is what he is which is an aging WR with little left to offer unless you want Hollywood type entertainment on Twitter or Dancing With The Stars on TV.

McCourty must be improving enough in the F.O. eyes to have the team say bye to Bodden

Good point, I'm sure that the reason why Haynesworth getting sacks is because he doesnt to.

Some things don't always show in the stat sheet

Indeed.......... That is the point with AH this year. In the 2 games he hasn't been in there, no sacks........ In the other 4 games, they have 10. Certainly not crazy #'s, but it elevates it to 2.5 per game, verses 2 for the defense.

Extrapolate that out to 6 games and you are talking 15 sacks, which is much closer to middle of the pack. It's not an easy or neat transfer, but it's pretty clear that regardless of stats, when AH is in there, we are MUCH MORE effective at getting at the QB.

More effective the just VW in there (whose average is 1.66 sacks per game by the defense when he is in there). You can call this cherry-picking stats, but it's pretty obvious that this defense is different when he is in there and when he is not.

Banks is no idiot despite the mundane ravings by some in this thread to the contrary. And why must people condemn someone just because you disagree with them? I don't get it.

Suh, isn't as 'impactful' as last year most of time. That's easy to see.

Matthews flies around still and has a lot of 'impact' beyond his reduced sacks so Banks was sharp to note this contrast with other players (the complainers here actually read his column, right?).

As for Not Quite As Fat Albert? He's hardly been the destroyer many, many here and across the NFL world thought he would be, injuries or not. Banks is responding to those raving expectations. Fair enough.

Ocho's an easy target given plenty of time has passed for him to learn the playbook and/or adjust to the Pat's style. Something ain't working and considering the Pats gave him $6million for this year one could argue he's the biggest flop of all.

McCourty has looked that good, he's not asserting himself as he did last year. It hurts to see him named in Banks column but we all expected much more.

If this team played together they would probably be 1st or 2nd in the whichever division they played in.....

Suh? Haynesworth? Clark? Not feeling this list at all.
