I was going to title the thread "Will it be Flutie", but I thought the word should is better because of Matt Cassell.

If Cassell proves himself I think Belichick has the stones to make Matt #2 but if he does....you can bet #3 will be a very intelligent and team orientated #3 who will only require $1 million or so to sign.

I'd go a step further. Cassel #2 and another fifth round or lower draft choice at #3. Beef up the OL a little more, increase the chance of Brady staying healthy and keep the QB development program going. We bombed out with Davey, but the concept is good. We're basically screwed with Flutie/Miller types anyway if Brady is out for the season.

I think Cassel will be number 2 with Flutie hopefully coming back as number three. Not to have a realistic chance of playing but to keep mentoring Matt.

The infamous Drop-Kick has me questioning if Flutie will return
however, the pursuit of a
 :D RING:D
has me thinking he'll come back for the same money.

I don't see Flutie back. He's 43 and it appears he has no arm strength left.

Cassel is number 2. Wouldn't be surprised to see Damon Huard back again.

Oh No  ... I'd rather see Randel-El than Huard...at least Randel has arm strength.

Do you all really think Casell is ready for a #2 spot? He is RAW! Quite frankly, if Brady gets smacked around like he did this year - I don't want "raw" at #2. As far as Flutie goes - where is the nearest glue factory?

Matt has been through an apprenticeship similar to Tommy's. He'll be as good or better then any other #2 if needed.

We do need a vet for backup. None of those names blow my skirt up.

So, if Cassel can take over the #2 spot, then bring back Flutie but I'm not a big Flutie fan.

I think with 3 QBs on any team you have:

A. One starter
B. One backup who "fits" in the same mold as your starter (ideally a young QB or project who might blossom into a starting QB someday), and
C. A veteran QB who also is a good "scout team" QB

Assuming Cassel's the young, Bradyesque player, one could make the case that Flutie - with all his experience, does a decent job as a veteran QB/scout team QB

But I also think we can do better than Flutie so would be very open to considering a FA

Brady had just three attempts as a backup for Drew Bledsoe. Funny, he didn't seem to work out too badly. ;)

I wonder if Belichick...in a cap saving move signs Randel-El as a WR/QB and makes him the 3rd or the 4th QB with the #3 being a mentor type more than a player type.

Now you can expand the QB pool to retired QB's also who are less than 5 years removed from retirement and who miss the comraderie of being on a team.

would highly doubt that......

Flutes will be here next year other than maybe as a drop kicking coach ;)....Cassels may be #2 and they would be wise to look at a younger, better option for #3 or to compete with cassels at #2.......

Personally I am in favor of a veteran as the 3rd QB, even if it just for competition for Mr. Cassel. On that list, I wouldn't mind seeing Josh McCown brought in. He'd come on the cheap, would definitely make the team (even if it is as #3), and would provide good competition for Cassel in TC.
