For all the discussion of a deep threat speedster, I think that what the Pats need is a physical, go up and get it WR. Boldin would fit that bill.

He'll be 33 years old this year...no thanks

Tired of getting these mid to late 30s WRs

Rather see someone under 30 for once....with proven talent and at a decent $$$ contract

They can't draft WRs to save their lives so hopefully a younger FA will come along

We need youth, Boldin's 32, I agree we need that type of receiver but he's a bit old.

Isn't Gronk really "that type of receiver"?

    Edit: ...and much more ...

Not outside the numbers he's not.

When was the last time a Patriots WR caught a TD in traffic like this? 2007?

Q: when is TB going to throw INTO TRAFFIC LIKE THAT?
A: only when he doesnt see the coverage.

an older (=slower) tall-physical receiver is great for a Flacco who throws up rainbows and needs that to make sure they dont turn into INTs.

But TB needs a tall-physical FAST guy who can make a threat on the outside and make the opponent have to cover the whole field (& not jam the middle - welkowski-LAND)

young stud wide outs don't grow on trees. And pats have been terrible at drafting them. If they can get Boldin for a decent price they have to.

If I remember right, we were in play for Boldin when he was being shopped back in 2010. Perhaps Bill still may have interest??

He'd an upgrade over Lloyd but it would not be a HUGE upgrade.

He's stronger, leaps higher, is way slower, and is no better at yards after catch.

Terrible at drafting WRs? Nah... all these WR picks since 2004 have worked out great!

    Ebert
    Taylor Price
    Brandon Tate
Edelman (not bad for a 7th rounder)
    Slater
    Chad Jackson
    P.K. Sam

I just hopped on the Ravens site to check out the cap situation. Ray Ricee is gettng a new contract and they know there are going to be some serious cap casualties if they sign Flacco to a 14 to 17 million a year contract. Many are suggesting losing at last 2 or the 5 starters on there O-line. There team is definitely going ot look different next year.......

If you are going to make a serious run at re-signing Welker (which I hope they do), you are either going to a) draft a WR or b) get a good, but older WR to replace Branch. You are not going to get a good, young FA WR without losing welker. They simply can't afford to make a play for a Wallace, or a Hartline for that matter.

Not saying Boldin is the guy to go after, but it is the mold of player they need to look at. They also need to draft a WR, but I dont see them using a first rounder on a a WR given their history. Therefore, whoever they draft will likely not be ready to step into the starting lineup next year. A physical vet WR would be a good bridge.

I think Lloyd has a team friendly contract. he also plays on the outside while bolden plays slot.....totally different position...

$5M over?? How did that happen... that thread with cap #'s a couple weeks ago had them like $15M under.

Well they really are screwed if that's the case. AT BEST for Baltimore, they can franchise Flacco which would still have them $20M over before resigning Kruger/Reed if they choose to. Both would be big losses. And Ray is gone. Looks like they're going to undergo their real test now, building a great team is one thing but maintaining it is another. They really need to win Sunday might be their last real good shot in a while. I'm sure they'll still be competitive under Harbaugh but they're going to take a major shot if that # is correct.

As far as Boldin, no thanks unless you're not planning to resign Welker. Either way getting him away from the Ravens is enough of a win.

Do you idiots not follow the Patriots?

    Boldin hates the Patriots.
    The Patriots hate Boldin.

This is almost as stupid as the trade for Revis talk.

I am on the floor laughing at the proposition of Flacco getting anything more than 8 mill per year. He is overrated garbage (think slightly better version of Sanchez circa 2010) and is going to single handedly end their hopes of any future titles by preventing them from having a quality team. We all know Flacco can't win unless he has a loaded team to bail him out. Him signing anything north of 12 million is a death sentence.
