    * Outstanding Diagnostic Skills, Processing Speed, and the Vision to see where the hole is going to be.

    * Explosive Burst through the Hole and excellent Speed to the Edge.

    * Phenomenal Fluidity and Lateral Agility, navigating the field, and violent Torsion, bursting outta breaks.

    * And such a dangerous downfield threat that he was often Split Out Wide in California.

    Shane Vereen: Amazing Talent and the Brains to apply it with deadly force.

    Best of all: He is such a lethal weapon, running and receiving, that his presence on the field doesn't give the Defense the slightest clue what we have in mind...which makes all 11 of our players far more dangerous!!

    This isn't California and we have yet to see the only thing that we are often painfully reminded matters once you arrive here which what you can do at the next level and specifically in this system.

    While I'm sure everyone has high hopes for the kid, as well as his stable mate Ridley, overhyping either at this juncture is just creating potentially unrealistic expectations. The kind that if not achieved or exceeded turn many here against a player on a dime. Why not just wait to see what they can produce on the field in their all important second season and hope it's something solid to build on.

    As I've said elsewhere, that's SOP for this board. You're right to be cautious, but at the same time, it's hard not to be a little excited about what Vereen could potentially bring to this offense - a dimension that we really haven't seen before in the BB era. Ivan Fears is reportedly very high on Vereen, and I think he will be given every opportunity to establish himself as the primary weapon in the backfield, with Ridley playing more of a complementary role. But the Pats will have other options lined up to hedge their bets.

    I'm very hopeful for Vereen, and very eager to see what he does. I'll leave it at that for now until he actually produces on the field for us.

    I'm all in. "Can't wait" to see him lined up in the slot and torch Bart Scott and the rest of the speed-challenged linebackers we face. I think he'll be great in the no-huddle. We'll use Ridley as a change of pace sledgehammer.

    The Pats didn't draft him in the 2nd round merely to be a 3rd down back (especially when you think they had a very productive Danny Woodhead already on the team). He was drafted to be an explosive offensive threat, who had the potential to be 3 down RB. He still has that "potential". I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him become the player he has the potential to be.

    What was truly surprising was the explosive running by Steven Ridley. When he was drafted the thought was that he'd be a one cut down hill runner, who might be an eventual replacement for BJGE. Instead we got FIVE 20+ yd runs in just 87 carries, a 5.0ypc, and saw several glimpses of speed and acceleration that we HADN'T expected

    Anyone who isn't excited by the prospect of these 2 kids battling for snaps, should be forced to read Ron Borges Pats columns for 10 straight hours. AND THEN be forced to listen to Tony Mazaratti talk about pro football for the rest of the day. ;).

    OTG has a right to be excited. I think BB is a bit excited himself about the potential of the running game. How else can you explain the presence of THREE FB's on the current roster after a 3 year absence of even having ONE. I think the running game is back in NE (relatively speaking anyways) and that shameful time of possession stat will be vastly improved on in 2012

    It's gonna be too bad for Bolden if Vereen and Ridley play up to expectations, as I expect BB would keep Addai as a veteran presence in that case.

    Still, that's the kind of problem I hope the Pats are plagued with.

    Interesting. I would have thought BB would be more liked to keep Bolden if Vereen and Ridley make Addai an afterthought.

    And I'm still hoping that Denver cuts Knowshon Moreno. He had a similar skill set to Vereen pre-injury, and could provide great depth .

    I think Addai is already an afterthought as far as being a starting RB goes, i just think BB may want to keep a guy like Addai as a veteran presence with a young backfield, particularly in light of Addai's reputation as a blocker.

    In a perfect world, Bolden shows how good he could be post-injury, and he makes the team on pure talent and potential, but remember that BB doesn't collect talent, he builds a team.

    I'm more of a Ridley kind of guy...

    J/K I really like Vereen's skillset and versatility; all the best backs do it all, and there is certainly some intrigue because of the unknown. Should be an exciting position to watch develop moving forward.

    Why do so many posters feel the need to tell other posters what type of fan they should be?
    If someone wants to be optimistic and someone else pessimistic, why does either side feel the need to convince the other to be like them?

    I always hoped Maroney might step it up with his purported ability in space - but it never really worked out consistently for him.

    Really excited about this guy, genuine game breaker ability - and surely teams are going to be thinking pass all the way.
