As you all know, I am a big supporter of President Obama and think the world of him and most of his policies.

I have also not visited or posted on this Political Forum for over a month due to the plummeting level of discourse here.

However, I felt a need to weigh in on the injustice done by President Obama last night.

    Very simply, if:

    1) You admit that you are personally biased towards a friend of yours involved in a dispute

    2) You admit you do not know the particulars of the dispute

    3) You are the leader of a country where this issue is an extremely sensitive subject

Then, you do NOT weigh in with an opinion on the dispute. You simply SHUT THE HELL up about it until you have incontrovertable facts.

What Barack Obama did last night regarding the Professor Gates case is a disastrous injustice to both Sgt Crowley and to any and all minorities who in the future may have LEGITIMATE complaints against prejudicial police treatment.

I still support Barack Obama and pray for his success, but he fell several pegs in my personal estimation last night.

    This warranted it's own thread?

Didn't fit into the threads already existing in this forum.

Hmmm ... those damn elitist moderators.:rolleyes::rolleyes::p:p

He's a brave man for addressing race in an environment where the cards are stacked firmly against him. He's absolutely right about the long and sordid history of police and racism, and it's appropriate that he address it lest he be accused of abandoning the people who voted for him. (Plus, it distracts us from the health care hysteria.) (Also, you're right, there's little quality in this forum other than PatsFanInVa.)

    1) He admitted he did not know the facts of the case

    2) He admitted he was biased because of his friendship to Professor Gates

    It was immoral.

I'm not a moderator on this forum. If the mods of this forum want to merge this into another thread, fine.

I felt this was DIFFERENT from the other threads because it is coming from a SUPPORTER of President Obama and, therefore, the intention was different.

Not in Cambridge, Strudel. You know how the rest of the country calls MA the People's republic of Massachusetts? Well that's what we say about Cambridge. When it comes to ending racism that city was waaaaay ahead of the curve and Obama lived here. He should have known better.

I've lived in Cambridge, MA and Berkeley, CA. Cambridge is far, far less liberal than Berkeley, CA. Boston is ridiculously segregated, and I wouldn't live here if I was black.

And he's a jerk for saying the Police acted "stupidly" without knowing the facts of the case.

I have far more respect for shmessy, patters, & sdaniels724 after reading
    some of their posts today.

Even Patters questioned Obama's comments on the Gates issue last night.

Nice to see that they think twice before they drink the coolaid.

I disagree 100%. If that officer had a smile on his face none of this happens.

I am sure you would have a smile on your face if someone yelled at you
    "YO-MAMA".

Strange words from an educated man !

If the women that called told Crawley she thought there was a burgler in the house i wouldn't doubt if he had his gun out as he entered. I don't think he would enter with a smile on his face in this situation.

How about when he sees Gates' ID with his name, address, and photo of a black man on it? Smile, apologize, ask if he can help. Cops do not exist to terrorize the people. (Insert rhetorical question here.)

I don't believe either one of them completly. I have read that Gates was just arriving home from a trip to China major jet lag i don't think he was in a good mood. Like i said earlier in another thread they both lost their cool in the heat of the moment, niether one could probably tell you with complete accuracy what was said exactly.

Also like i said earler today that Obama should not have commented on this, he said he didn't know the facts. But i don't think its as big a deal as some. Gates is a friend of his and i think he was commenting on the actual arrest, not Crawley asking for ID.

The gets even better. That cop should have T-bagged that lying SOB!!!

Cop who arrested black scholar is profiling expert

Cop who arrested black scholar is profiling expert

Cambridge Sgt. James Crowley has taught a class on racial profiling for five years at the Lowell Police Academy after being hand-picked for the job by former police Commissioner Ronny Watson, who is black, said Academy Director Thomas Fleming.

"I have nothing but the highest respect for him as a police officer. He is very professional and he is a good role model for the young recruits in the police academy," Fleming told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Wow and Obama looks like such a toolbag for his ignorant statements. What a cluster they turned this into. White House is now backpeddling...

White House qualifies Obama remark about arrest

White House qualifies Obama remark about arrest

The White House tried Thursday to calm a hubbub over President Barack Obama's comments about a white police officer's arrest of a black scholar near Boston, saying Obama was not calling the officer "stupid."

"Let me be clear, he was not calling the officer stupid," Gibbs told reporters as Obama landed in Cleveland for two health care events Thursday. He said Obama felt that "at a certain point the situation got far out of hand" at Gates' home last week.

So, what was he saying then? He said the Cambridge police acted stupidly...does he mean all of them? He is looking like a total fool on this one. Mr. President...may I politely ask?

He's saying that a non stupid person did a stupid thing; which isn't an impossible argument to make - we've all done stupid things but, hopefully, we aren't all stupid, but obama totally fell into a ditch on this one. I don't think THIS is what he wanted to come out of last night's "press conference" (if that's what you call prepared questions and answers).
