I know he was a good player here, but I guess i never thought of him as a HOF player, or even a Pats HOF player. His stats are ok, but he did play in a 3-4 so you could say his #s were great for a 3-4 end. I dont think he'll be in anytime soon (after retirement) though. There's alot of players I would put in before him.

I think you have an idea and are trying to pretend reality fits it.

I am not 'bashing' him I am discussing what he did.
He made almost no plays. To say 'he got penetration' is to try to put a positive spin that isnt quantifiable on a poor perfermance.

What I could never figure out was when the Pats lost with Seymour on the team, many on the board would complain about how he had a bad game, but once he got traded it was like "Oh no, no Seymour, we are doomed"...

Loved that 1st quarter. Dick was like a rooster on speed.
Highly unusual for Dick to be that motivated without a $$contract$$ on the line. ;)

I would love to hear what Brady was saying as he was getting up afterwards. Clearly pissed off

I think Seymour psyched himself out with the big penalties on the first drive and never really got his rhythm back the rest of the game. Tossing Brady to the ground after the play had obviously been blown dead for several seconds was over the top and then he overcompensated by blatantly grabbing that face mask in the pile a few plays later. I only saw him close to the point of attack once or twice after that, on one of which he was Offside, as someone else observed.

Even the idiot announcers (who spent most of the first half praising Jason Campbell as though he were a candidate for Canton for "shredding" the Patriots defense) recognized that Richard was playing with too much emotion at the beginning.

In a manner of speaking letting his emotions ultimately get in the way was Richard's undoing here. There were certain slights and perceptions and concerns he could never seem to let go of or get past - on or off the field.

    No Jersey Selected

Oh, you didn't know about how Seymour used his cleats a few years back on a helmet-less Colts defensive player who was on on the ground? It didn't create a furore as it should have because it wasnt caught on TV.

So, I was furious to see him throw down Brady like that and then see his grappling of Green-Ellis.

Glad to see him smirking on the sidelines during the end of the game.

I think it was a Charger player. Nick Hardwing or something like that. It was in the 07 AFC champ game. Later, Nick blasted him and called him a dirty player.

He started off looking like Forrest Whitaker from Fast Times at Ridgemont High after Spicoli told him the other team wrecked his car. Then he pretty much disappeared.

Agreed. I was thinking that yesterday as I watched him toss Brady to the ground on that bonehead play. Didn't BB used to bench him once in a while because he was too emotional about something? Then he'd be emotional about the benching.

For those who were arguing the "who got the better of the Seymour trade" the other day, did the fact that Wilfork (whom the Pats decided to keep instead of Seymour) made the highlight reel play of the game (rather than Seymour, who clearly WANTED to make the highlight reel play but didn't) give you pause? It confirmed my opinion that it was a "win-win" trade after all.

    Disable Jersey

I'd had my doubts about the trade, but always rationalized it thinking we can't spend all our non-QB cap space on 2 DL. Yesterday, I had the same immediate reaction as you to Wilfy's 2nd pick of the season in contrast to Big Sey's out of control emotion. Too bad because I always liked the guy and wish he could have been here. And Wilfork is a gem in post game interviews.

Yeah, he ended up looking pretty stupid with all of his penalties, but his physical presence alone, along with his fire and leadership, reminds us that we have no one like him. I think I'd like to see one of our pass rushers just encroach through the line and slam down the other quarterback, just for a personal vendetta. Seems like our guys just don't really care much about having a score to settle because they never create anything resembling pressure.

I thought and many here mentioned there was a noticable dropoff after he got his big contract.

Also, he may have been the one ellis Hobbs was refering to when he talked about some patriot players faking injuries.

Meh - I'd like to see one of our players crash through the line for a nice clean sack rather than a vendetta (and why would Sey have a vendetta against Brady?). There's a guy the Pats put in at the end of games (can't think of his name right now at work where I am dreaming of football instead of meeting deadlines) who got a sack yesterday. As my husband wondered out loud - why don't they put that guy in sooner?

Seymour helped the Patriots more in the game, that at any time during his last 2 years with them. :)
