I found the following quote on the Fox News site...

"Economists monitor jobless claims as a gauge of the pace of layoffs. Analysts say initial claims need to fall to about 425,000 for several weeks to signal the economy is actually beginning to add jobs."

Can anyone explain how 425,000 newly unemployed workers per month can signal the economy is ADDING jobs?!! WTF?? :confused2:

That statement is false...a lie. UNLESS we are ADDING 425,001+ jobs per month, how can that signal jobs are being added?

    I'm stumped!

There's always going to be people on unemployment, maybe 425k is considered a baseline?

Harry I don't care if I have to pay more, I care about my ppl getting the things they need to survive and live healthy.

I would give everything I own if I meant ppl could get health care and a good education and a cleaner environment. I don't mind sacrificing for others......maybe I'm just a real Christan idk.

Sometimes you have to think of others, not just yourself........

Rule #1 - Dont buy gold when "they" are telling you to buy gold. You should buy it when they're telling you to sell your jewelry...like they were last year!

Rule #2 - NEVER comment with something as irrelevant as your comment. It had nothing to do the thread content...which is stupidity defined!

425K is FAR above baseline...that I know for sure. I also know for a fact that more jobs have to be added than are lost to add jobs.

That's why I posted a thread asking someone to explain this.

Rule #3 - If you don't take care of yourself, no one else will.

Personally, I've already started making $$ under the table to make up for any new tax I'll have to pay. I'm NOT paying for anyone elses insurance.

    Ok Saint MaybeItsNotTrue?

I've read about there being a rolling baseline somewhere as well. I think it has to do with the amount of jobs added to the market, as well as the amount of people who retire, or leave a job in some capacity. Historically, IIRC from what I read, every economic downturn has had a certain rolling average of jobless claims, act as a measure of pending job growth, or at least a bottom. I can't remember where I read it, but it was a few months ago, and it was an article by a guy who was saying that the worst of the jobs market was over, cuz the rolling average was some figure, as mentioned in the article above. A lot of people were disagreeing with him in the comments, as they explained their own measure of historical data that said otherwise. It was a random article, so I'll likely never find it. I think some people feel that this economic situation is different than anything we've experienced, and that because of that, a lot of historical trends may not apply. We shall see. I just hope things turn around soon.

The same thing has been quoted in other news sources. I'm sure there is a logical explanation for it. I sent an email to an economist I know. When I get the answer, I'll post it.

Remember, the quote said "Analysts claim....", so it's not their opinion.

    MaybeItsTrue is just an **&&^%$#...

How is that relevant to an unemployment thread other than to reassure us that we (the honest tax payers) will be paying other people's unemployment by making up your tax-free difference out of our dollars?

You really want us to be proud of your cunning and foresight, don't you?

Everybody loves and admires a law-breaker and a tax cheater, right?

Just like you admire and respect all those senators and lobbyists and all those other big shots who are tax evaders and law breakers.

    NOT EVERYONE IS LIKE YOU!!!

I'm glad you made it man, I'm glad you enjoy the fruits of your labor but don't hate on others for not being as strong as you. It's easy to pick on the poor and under educated, why do you be a man and help them instead of *****ing about them?

It's my way of telling the gov't "you're not doing what we want you to do"....if they don't raise taxes, I'll pay taxes on it!

Get a snow plough like I did 3 weeks ago!
