I think this needs its own thread just a nice calm running tally of every player that is already out for the season.

    Kendall Hunter --- Torn ACL ----- 49ers
Vick Vallard -------Torn Achilles -- Indy
Aaron Ross --------Torn Achilles -- Balt
Kiko Alonso -------Torn ACL ------ Buf
Greg Orton -------Torn Achilles -- Pats
Sean Lee --------- Torn ACL ------ Dal
    Tyler Gaffney -----Torn LCM

All guys that were looking at major playing time. Crazy and crappy to see a lot of talented mostly young guys losing a whole season already before the pads go on.

If pre-TC injuries are included (which I assume they are since Alonso was hurt a while ago), then Sean Lee should be included too. That one is brutal for the cowboys

Questions to ask ourselves (and the NFL to ask themselves) What's the cause? Are TC injuries on the rise, or do we only hear about them now because the the 24 hour news cycle? Could field turf be the problem? Are athletes just putting too much strain on these ligaments in their desire to be bigger/stronger/faster?

These are the things I wonder about. I remember in the 90's you could always count on one big injury a season: Jamal Anderson, Dan Marino, Mark Brunell ect ect. Nowadays the league would be very lucky for only one major injury like that in a season.

That's a good question. It would be interesting to see a comparison of the number of TC injuries from 10 or 15 years ago to the last couple of years.

On the one hand, it's nothing we haven't heard before. Guys get hurt every year in training camp. Maybe not marquee guys, but players still suffer injuries. On the other hand, practices now are supposed to less frequent and less intense than they were under previous CBAs. Injuries are still happening and we're still about a week away from the start of exhibition games (except the HOF game) and actual tackling taking place.

Yeah, that's unfortunately the unpredictability of sports. There is always the element of injury that every athlete knows is there but does not want to thing about. I don't think you can if you want to be great. Sadly, injuries can claim careers, sometimes before they even get off the ground. I watched my favorite basketball player, Paul George, likely lose his season last night on a freak injury. The thing that hurts me more than that is seeing how he was becoming a young star in the league and wondering if that continues after his recovery. I guess it is what it is, though.

    49ers lose their starting NT.

@AdamSchefter: 49ers DT Glenn Dorsey is out for the year with a torn bicep, per source.
