I was just listening to Sirius NFL radio. They were discussing the Patriots. One of the hosts Scott Wetzel made the comment that Tom Brady might be past his prime and might not get to the Super Bowl again. He was comparing him to Dan Marino getting to a Super Bowl earlier in his career and not getting back. I couldn't beleive the comments.

He admitted he is a Dolphins fan so his objectivity might be questionable. If anyone has the ability to listen to Sirius you might want to check this show out this morning.

    Regards,

That's what fans of other teams hang their hats on. "They've had their time", "Brady's past his prime", "The Patriots have lost too many of their 'stars'" (at first it was "They don't have any stars").

Who cares? What difference does any of that make? They were a single first down away from winning it all last year with a team that had no business getting that close, given the injuries in the secondary and depleted receiving corps.

They'll show up for work next September. That we can all agree on. What people say will not be a factor.

Yeah, I was listening to that too. At first it pi$$ed me off but after listening to him further I just realized he was a clueless Dolphins fan. By the end of the segment I was laughing out loud.

Keeping with that theme I switched over to Raw Dog Comedy.

I like Wetzel a lot. I was upset when 1490-AM in Harrisburg dropped Sporting News Radio for Fox Sports Radio, esp. since 1460-AM was already broadcasting Fox. I knew that he was a doofins fan, but he's not a Pats/Boston hater, unlike others (JT the Brick, Andrew Siciliano, etc.) on radio.

Brady has about 6 years left.

The Patriots will win two more Super Bowls.

That means more times than not the Wetzels of the world will be correct.

So what, I'll take my 5 Super Bowl victories and say, see ya.

So I called Sirius Radio and spoke to Scott Wetzel.

He basically was saying to me he doesn't know how bad Brady wants to win anymore.

We went back and forth and I enjoyed my conversation.

I was just thinking after watching the NFL Pats marathon yesterday that Brady has his best years ahead of him. I honestly think that Pats will win 2 if not 3 more SB's with Brady! I really do. The combination of Brady and Belichick is just too good. That coupled with the best GM in the game and great great players on all sides of the ball makes me believe they have something other teams just don't come close to. Talent is great, but coaching is the most important thing. When your QB buys into what the coach coaches - ultimately it means everything! Look back to after that Miami debacle last year what did Brady say at his PC that following Wednesday ... 'I think we all have to start listening to our coach'! It was no secret or no surprise to me that they only lost one game after Brady made those statements and that was the AFC Championship game! Brady knows what makes this team work and what makes it stall - he is the key and he is getting better - SMARTER! Maybe not more talented physically, but certainly smarter. The Greats like Young, Marino and Elway all said that as they got older and more experienced the game slowed down for them and they could see the field better, more clearly. That is happening now to Brady.

I find it amazing how at 29, going on 30 many people are saying that Brady is past his prime. Yet, with what most call 3rd & 4th string WR's as his 1st and 2nd and virtually no running game in 3 playoff games, he QB'd them to yet another AFC Championship game. I think this past season was his best yet! Brady does so much with so little. He will have a monster year in 2007 barring any injuries. Injuries as he gets older will be his biggest obstacle. He gets hit hard and plenty year after the year. He takes vicious hits and just keeps getting up, but now at 30 he will have a much harder time getting up. I hope the Pats realize that WR's, TE's and RB's are great to build around your franchise QB but its the Offensive Line that matters MOST and they need to make sure they get better at protecting Brady as Brady gets older. He can't take many more years of these brutal hits.

More bulletin board material, not as if they need more, but just a nice reminder to keep #12 focused on his game.

LOL! That's just asinine. Anyone with even the slightest clue about the player couldn't possibly say that - there are lots of reasons the Pats might not win another Super Bowl, many of which I might disagree with but at least respect. But that one's ridiculous.

As for Brady and his "prime," he's IN IT right now. That is total phin fan wishful thinking and beneath a guy I generally think is pretty good at his job.

    #17 Jersey

I would just love to know that Scott's comments made their way to Tom Brady (I wouldn't be surprised if the NEP media machine made sure that he did).

I would love to see his reaction, first hand - I think the "F" bombs might surprise a few!!

Tom Brady is one of the most competitive people I have ever had the pleasure of watching in sports - I think he is far, very far from done.

He calls himself a Dolphin fan and he thinks Marino was past his prime his third year in the league? Marino got to the Super Bowl in his second year in the NFL and never went back. So I guess the next 15 years of his career was a slow decline.

I think the fact that he is comparing Brady to Marino saying that he is past his prime shows how little he knows about football. I have heard him on Sirius Satellite radio and I aoin't impressed. Marino didn't get back to the Super Bowl again because he never had a defense or a running game until late in his career (when he was in his mid-30s) after his skills had started to decline.

Brady is in his prime, but like Marino he cannot do it by himself. But unlike Marino, Belichick and Pioli has put a lot of talent around him especially on defense. Brady isn't even 30 yet. He was one minute away from going to the Super Bowl this past year with no WR half the talent of Clayton or Duper who Marino had for many years. Wetzel is an idiot. I see no comparisons between Brady and Marino other than both have (had) great pocket presense.

If Brady listened to these guys he would have never made it in the NFL. Why does he think Brady does not want to win any more? Is he not doing spring workouts? He is putting in the time to win. I have never heard anyone say anything different.

If Brady is past his prime then Manning must be heading for the rocking chair. Some people have no editing ability and all kind of this just spurt out of there mouth. Most of them stupid!

Brady, even with dating the worlds hottest super model and a daddy to be, is in NE at the workouts! Cassel said last week that every year Brady sets the bar higher and higher and is the most spirted guy through the off season pushing each of those guys along.

Dan Patrick, in his sidebar note on ESPN radio over a month ago said that he had a good souce that Brady had the Pats office order him the last 3 2006 season game films for every opponent they are playing in 2007! I wonder what the heck those tapes are for??? ;)

He could certainly walk away from that dedication with the money, fame and success he has had - he is virtual lock for the HOF, BUT he is the first guy in the weight room in the AM and the last guy to leave the film room in the PM. Yeah, Scott Wetzel knows what he is talking about!

That is why the pats need to constantly look for upgrades at LT, Matt Light's Pro Bowl appearence notwithstanding. A healthy Kaczur and O'Callahan will also help.

In this latest run the fact of the matter has been depth has been an issue for the Patriots not finishing out with another Lombardi. With Parity in the league it seems that although Belichick and Pioli are constantly reloading for the next year all it takes is one team to have their players peak at the right time. So I agree that Brady and Belichick and co. have the talent to win a couple more but it just so hard to run the table in the play-offs. The common theme for all three titles has been the ball bouncing the right way for them.

I'm not validating Wetzel's comments but it's alot to think that any team could win 2 or 3 more superbowls in the next 6 years. I do think they will be contenders each year but at what point will the air leak out of the tires on this great ride we've been enjoying?
