We have not replaced Scott, Lloyd, Branch or Edelman. I understand that we have taken a no-cost flyer on Jones (no signing bonus). Certainly, Jones will compete for one of the roster spots.

    DEFENSIVE END
We're certainly out there talking to players. Perhaps, we have news soon. The draft is also a possibility.

    WIDE RECEIVER
Given the likelihood of a draft choice, I suspect that we carry 5 WR's (not counting Slater). As was the case last year, we should see at least a half dozen additional wide receivers in camp.

Benard would be a replacement for Scott IMO.

    Jones for Branch.

    P.S. Nice Thread

Banard did not play last year. He played 4 games in 2011. You might as well count on Dowling to start at CB, or Pryor to be major contributor in pass-rush. Any of these could happen, but Belichick is out looking for help at DE.

I'd say Jones is a more than capable replacement for Branch as the #4. They still need two WRs to replace Lloyd and Edelman.

I assume the Scott replacement will happen within the next week, and maybe even within the next two days.

    At a guess:

Lloyd & Edelman will be back
Abraham replaces Scott (by replace I of course mean massive upgrade)
Jones is better than Branch at this point

Oh no without someone to replace Trevor Scott's massive garbage time production of 14 tackles and 3 sacks, or Deion Branch's 16 catches for 145 yards, or Julian Edelman's 21 catches for 235 yards you might as well put this team down for 6-10.

They need an upgrade at those positions, not replacement butts to keep the bench warm

Just out of curiosity, why do some assume that 2 WR's who are in the top half or more of the free agent WR list will automatically be back?

Llyod was a 75 catch/900 yd receiver last year. Some are making it out like he was Ochocinco after joining and failing with the Patriots. Why is that?

And Edelman is the #1 WR on 2 separate lists that we've discussed lately (not that I agree with that ranking) in terms of available free agents.

I'm not understanding the assumption that's going on, that both of these WRs won't be able to find work in the NFL and will have to come crawling back to the NE Pats for minimum salaries. Is this kind of like the "Hoyer and Mallett will bring a 2nd rounder" homer thing? Or do you have some reason for feeling this way? I'm only asking out of seriousness.

I don't think it was meant to be opinionated at all, primetime. I think mgteich was just making a "matter of fact" observation of positions that we need replaced.

With Edelman, I think it's an issue where if he had been blown away by an offer, then he would have already signed elsewhere. Since he hasn't gotten that kind of offer, it makes sense that his desired pay is slowly getting closer and closer to what the Pats offered him.

As for Lloyd, it sounds like the personality issues are very real, and that he could very well not find a single team that's willing to bring him in, which would most likely lead to him crawling back to the Pats and begging for a job.

I think that the chances of both back is unlikely, but I think there's a good case to be made for either one. I think the Pats would take either or both back at their price, and the likelihood that the Pats' price is as good as those players can get increases as time goes on.

There will be more than a few veteran WR's cut before or during training camp based on all the WR talent in the draft. When teams look to shave a few bucks I bet Bill signs at least one at that time. Also I am fairly certain Edelman will be back.

Amendola is an upgrade to the Edelman/Branch production and happens to be a slot receiver. I would like to see a split end and flanker replace the production of Wes and Lloyd.

It would impressive to find a player to replace the production of Wes and Lloyd.

Even though neither is a starting-caliber player, Benard and Scott could not be more dissimilar.

Hopefully Edelman is re-signed this week, and Lloyd returns cheaply after the draft. I wouldn't be surprised to see Branch re-sign for camp, and then be on speed dial once again once the reg season starts.

Mostly, I suppose, because they remain unsigned and they don't suck. Seems to me that they want more than is being offered. Maybe the Pats FO has made each an offer and let them see how it compares to the market?

I'd like to introduce you to Danny Amendola. Clearly you are not familiar with him.

Vega and/or Bequette are your Scott "replacements." They could use a rotational guy like Abraham, but Trevor Scott was never that.

Lloyd is the only outstanding player who has production that will really need replacement, and that could come from Lloyd himself, Emmanuel Sanders, or someone else.

You are unkind. After all, Amendola has about 700 yards in his last 2 years, almost what Lloyd has every year. I should be fair, in Amendola's first two years, he did total a bit more than Lloyd did last year.

Ok so Scott was basically in the same exact situation last year and Mark Anderson the year before him. You asked about replacing Scott and what Scott was last year was a low risk potential high reward pass rush option. Benard is his replacement.
