BREAKING: Libby Must Report To Prison Pending Appeal

    AP reports:

A federal judge said Thursday he will not delay a 2 1/2-year prison sentence for I. Lewis ”Scooter” Libby, a ruling that could send the former White House aide to prison within weeks.

U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton’s decision will send Libby’s attorneys rushing to an appeals court to block the sentence and could force President Bush to consider calls from Libby’s supporters to pardon the former aide.

No date was set for Libby to report to prison but it’s expected to be within six to eight weeks. That will be left up to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, which will also select a facility.

UPDATE II: AP reports that Libby’s lawyers “will seek an emergency order delaying the sentence.”

and, in a related note... cracker apologists show their true colors by threatening the judge!!.... real smart...

Judge in Libby trial receives threats. AP reports:

The federal judge who oversaw I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s CIA leak trial said Thursday that he received threatening letters and phone calls after sentencing the former White House aide to prison.

“I received a number of angry, harassing mean-spirited phone calls and letters,” U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton said. ”Some of those were wishing bad things on me and my family.”

Walton made the remarks as he opened a hearing into whether to delay Libby’s 2 1/2-year sentence. He said he was holding the letters in case something happened but said they would have no effect on Thursday’s decision.

I'm sure Qui Gon or patsfan13 will be around shortly to tell us that the judge should be impeached for putting a saint behind bars.

gotta love the stupidity... any hope they had of leniency goes right out the window when the jr. Nazis start getting all Brown Party on the justice system...

i almost want Bush to pardon him now... so that Boy King and his court can enjoy the firestorm that will follow...

He will definately pardon him on his way out (like Clinton's last-minute pardons), but he'll piss off too many Republicans by doing it now and hurt the GOP's chances in the election. Nah, I think Libby's going to be on ice for a while.

that's fine... it's a win-win... a documented war fabricator is going straight to jail... not the bottom-skimmish fish we were ultimately after, but he'll do for now...

no group pushed more fraudulent buttons for this bogus act of imperialism than the OVP... and Libby was its Chief of Staff... he may be a "nice guy", but he's a liar... and not just about one covert intelligence officer either...

Judge Walton seems to be the Democratic version of Judge Lamberth who caused the Clinton administration so many headaches. Although I think Libby is a victim in this mess (he's sort of a consolation prize), he did commit a crime and deserves to be punished, and I bet Judge Walton is thinking that if Libby doesn't serve time now, he won't serve any because he'll be pardoned.

As he should be. If he is pardoned, I agree it won't be until GW's last days in office.

I am still betting on ol GWB getting some divine intervention and inteceding before he heads behind high walls... I don't see him doing time, hope I am wrong but just a hunch... wait for all the falsehoods to be spread about Walton, about how much of a saint Libby is and how Plame was not covert.

I wondered that too but chalked it up to a non-sequitur. But come to think of it, what the hell is that supposed to mean?

To be honest, I really don't care. I just wanted to point out how it sticks out when certain people say it, yet flies under the radar when it's someone else.

clearly, i'm talking about the kind of slug who would annonymously threaten a judge and/or his family in the face of a ruling that embarrasses the current party of profound intolerance and war-mongering...

it is my opinion that this kind of faceless coward almost always happens to be a middle-aged, white, male biggot....

anyhow, a song comes to mind...

    I hear that train a’comin’
    It’s rollin’ ’round the bend
And I ain’t seen the sunshine
    Since I don’t know when

I been stuck in Folsom Prison
    Time keeps dragin’ on
    But that train keeps a-rollin’,
    On down to San Antone

I bet there’s rich folks eatin’
    In a fancy dining car
    They’re probably drinkin’ coffee
    And smokin’ big cigars
But I know I had it comin’
    I know I can’t be free
    But those people keep a-movin’
    And that’s what tortures me

Personally I don't care about someone calling me a cracker, but isn't an insult that's rooted in race... racist? You know, like that other word.

no... because i didn't suggest all white males are crackers...

regardless, is it possible to be racist against your own race's most unflattering forms?

So you don't see anything racist about calling someone a nigger, as long as you direct it at that one person and not all blacks?

i'm caucasian... if i want to call particular racist whites crackers, so be it... to me, cracker connotates intolerant, repressive, ignorant racist...

    i guess i don't understand how it's racist to call a racist a racist?

Not that but you Libs scream bloody murder when a terrorist is incarcirated before getting due process and are thrilled that Libby is being sent to jail before he gets his due process (ie his appeal).

If he were an illegal alien then you libs would be really upset.
