NFL.com Blogs Blog Archive Market closing for LB Lewis; Rolle wants out

“Honestly, I don’t want to play in Baltimore anymore because I feel I’m not wanted,” said Rolle, who has started for the Ravens the past four seasons. “During the past two years, the Ravens have wanted to replace me, and the only man in the building that supported me was Rex [Ryan, the former defensive coordinator].

“I have nothing against the organization, nothing against ownership. I just feel it’s time for me to move on. Never have I challenged this organization, but I think it’s in both our best interest.”

It's possible Ryan already has an offer waiting, but this might be worth watching...

Nope. There were metrics out there that had him as the worst starting CB in the league, and I buy it. Even with everything else the Baltimore defense had going for it, he still looked bad. This would be Deltha O'Neal all over again.

He wonders why Baltimore doesn't seem to want him: it's because he sucks and can be easily replaced.

they really are a sinking ship huh, everyone seems to be leaving.

Between Revis and now Lito, the Jets have no more room for a high priced CB.

Can't have to many quality CBs, I am not saying Rolle is quality.

If Rex wants him, then so be it. Still I wouln't get all excited about him.

Wilhite and Wheatley are the future of our backfield, and they're both going to be good, so what's the rush to get a CB here? I think we need a vet, but not a high profile one.

We have never had great CBs; we masked that deficiency by being great with our pass rush. That's what we need, a legit outside quarterback eating monster. The more I think this through the more I think that we should either be trying to get Peppers. Send two 2s to Carolina and get this guy.

The future? I wouln't go that far. They'll be here a few years, but we have to wait and see. Wilhite appears closer to being the future than Wheatley.

I pay one 2nd rounder at the most for Peppers

With all respect Griz, Assante and Ty say hello.

Really? I think Wheatley is going to be good. He wound up on IR pretty early in his rookie year but he looked good to me when he was in. I think they're both going to be decent; not stars but solid contributors.

I really think with both these guys back and with another year in the system, we're much better off in the backfield than people think. The problem is our LB corps, and now that Vrabel is gone it's hitting the edge of a crisis instead of a problem area.

Defensively we're in good shape outside of LBs. If we extend Wilfork and sign Jarvis Green (losing Sey is a given at this point), we'll have a good corps for our front three, and with the young guys getting reps at CB, and Meriweather and Sanders getting better at safety, it's a solid group.

But we're missing a pass rush specialist. These guys do not come around often, and it's why they get paid so well. Picking up Peppers, whatever the cost, is worth is. He's 29, and feasibly we could use him in a hybrid DE/OLB role, with guys like Woods or Crable coming off the bench when we work in a 4-3 so Pep can play on the line. It would be great for us. Crossed fingers...

yeah i know, but Asante wasn't really "great" until past the point we were winning championships. Ty Law was a huge portion of our defense in those years, and he didn't even play for most of 04. I think we survive without top-flight CBs if we have a good pass rush.

I'd way rather let Wilhite and Wheatley develop than bring in Rolle. One of those two guys is a legit starter, for sure. They might both be.

Not only that, he wants a trade or release because Rolle says he won't be a nickle back. Gee, that sounds like an attitude BB would like.

I thought this thread was about Antrelle and my nipples instantaneously became rock hard. Then I saw it was about Samari.
