For what it's worth: Adam Schefter reported on NFLN that Josh McDaniels has been identified among the Ravens' top four head coach prospects. This leads me to wonder if there will be another interruption in our playoff preparations a la Charlie Weis for McDaniels to prepare to fly down for an interview. I personally don't feel McDaniels is ready to be head coaching material.

I thought it was odd that with all the talk about the Dolphins and Falcons HC that no Patriot coaches had been mentioned... just lots of talk about Cowboy personnel... not that I mind.

I can't recall what the rule is - can assistants talk during the bye week but not during the playoffs? Or is it just "rumor central" until a team is out of the playoffs?

There are windows where they can travel and be interviewed. Sucks because it DOES take time away from game prep.

Hate to say it but Ravens would be a better choice than many.
EDIT: But that culture change for a YOUNG HC might be too much. Get some more seasoning Josh. :)

When Schefter also ran down the GM openings, it was surprising there was no mention at all of Pioli for any of the teams, which is good.

I'm being serious when I ask this, but could Ray Lewis handle a HC younger than him? Barely, but Josh is younger.

Two years ago the guy was too green to even be officially named as the OC, and now he is HC material?

Let us not forget, in 1998 Brian Billick was an offensive genius bc his QB could throw bombs to Moss, too.

Funny how that "offensive genius" label works...

    Ravens must be crazy

With all due respect to Mcdaniels....
You can't seriously tell me that he should be on anyones short list for HC vacancy at this point.

Crazy... he is 27 years old...lots of hype but where is the real leadership experience.

I would be perfectly fine if McDaniels leaves, Pats will have NO problem finding someone better qualified with more experience.

It was his relationship as a pal with Brady that got him promoted in the first place.

Away from this organization he will be 100 times worse than Mangini.

Let's see ... We add Moss, Welker, Stallworth, Morris, etc., and McDaniels suddenly is is an offensive mastermind worthy of a head coaching job at age 31? I don't see how any owner can be serious about this.

How do you prove your capabilities when in your previous stint you had the fortune of having one of the greatest QBs and to top it, added one of the best WRs to the arsenal for the most recent season?

Obviously the #s bear testimony that Brady and Moss will rank amongst the game's most lethal offense combos. Trying to figure out how Josh can take mileage from their accomplishments especially given the low # of years that Josh has been an OC.

I edited your post for additional emphasis

EDIT: I respect Josh; just think he needs 1-2 more seasons life experience before taking the HC job

Wait, did Mangini make that recommendation? Considering his record, all the more reason to avoid his suggestions I thought...

    Re: Ravens must be crazy

McDaniels is 31, not 27. And, you do BB a huge disservice to say that the only reason McDaniels got the promotion was because of his friendship with Brady. In fact, that makes it sound like BB put someone in charge last year that had no business being in charge. Do you really think that little of Belichick?

    Fair points DaBruinz.

    McDaniels is 31...still extremely young.

I am sure BB saw something in him...BUT

    1) I am pretty sure he was surprised when Mangini got the Jets job at 35, and I think EM was far ahead of JM in terms of experience

    2) He is probably a bright kid and hard working...but personally if I had a 500 million dollar investment I would want someone with a lot more experience out there.

I agree 100%. However, that is not how an owner thinks. An owner thinks "who can I hire that will fill the stands?" A young offensive coordinator who just called the plays for the best offense of the Super Bowl era is as good a choice as any for that criteria.

I am more than okay with other teams hiring unqualified inexperienced people to be head coach and it is even better when they are a team in our division like the Jets.

Exactly, or more to the point, you're an owner and have a chance to hire the protoge of Bill Bellichick - the coach who created a dynasty when they said there could be none and who has his team on the cusp of becoming the greatest team of all time.

Those are the only details they're likely concerned about. They simply ask how bad can he be if he's Belichick's top offensive coach?
