Sauerbrun was way huge in the 1st quater ... he made a huge diference in the field position game. That 57 yard punt was way huge and when we got the ball back after that we finally had decent field position.

For the day he was :

7 Punts

309 yards

44.1 AVG.

Their guy was 7 / 256 / 36.6

I don't care if they're returnable or not, I love those bazooka shots - and most of his punts were high today too although the fumbled one looked returnable. I'd take him over Kenny any day.

Yes, I forgot to mention him, but he does deserve mad props. I honestly didn't think he had it in him, but if he keeps playing like that Miller might have a fight on his hands next year.

If Ken Walter was our punter I think the Chargers score @6 to 10 more points. We would have responded in kind so not to say we would have lost ... just saying it would have been way harder than it already was.

Sauerbrun was pretty good, but don't poop on Scifres. Of his 7 punts, 5 were inside 20, and 3 were inside the 10, and punting on a short field tends to affect the average. Sauerbrun's one attempt at a coffin corner kick left a bit to be desired. Scifres also had a boomer of his own that Faulk caught at his 15, and it was in the air so long he got almost no yards returning it.

Because of Scifres, Pats lost the field position game most of the day. Because of Sauerbrun, the Chargers weren't able to capitalize as much as they should have.

Sauerbrun was excellent today. That first half was a real battle of field position and the offense was getting bailed out quite a bit, at least at the start of the game by a great combination of good punting and excellent defense.

Yes Sauerbrun kicked them into defendable positions from his own goaline several times.

He was instrumental in giving the Defense enough room to keep frustrating the Bolts, even though they had great field position throughout the first half.

Our ST specialists outplayed the
a) so-called "probowl" kicker Kaeding; the twice proven CHOKER
b) so-called "probowl" punter Scifres...

Oh yeah, for sure the Chargers punter did a better job of pinning us deep, but with Walter out there things would have been much worse.

All I'm saying is his performance was an unexpected but pleasant suprise.

I agree with this thread, was thinking this throughout the whole game especially in the first half when he was shooting scud missles past half field when he is standing in the end zone.

Miller has been great, but there is a reason why 2 punters on practise squad. I hope we re sign Sauerbrun. He has got the entire off season to learn how to hold for the Ghost.
