Outrageous, unfounded and just plain wrong facts from "The National Review," a leading conservative publication.

Newtown Answers - NRO Symposium - National Review Online

FIrst off, Sandy Hook Elementary School is a K-4th Grade institution. There were no "husky 12 year old boys," around. The oldest children would have been 9 and 10.

Second of all - as a mother, I wouldn't want my 12 year old son, husky or otherwise, to be "converging" on a man wearing a bullet proof vest and a face mask who was carrying 2 handguns, one assault rifle and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

    Would you?

Thirdly: There was a male custodian - and he did his part.

Lives saved by teachers, custodian and even children in Connecticut school shooting - U.S. News

And lastly: Is the author so unaware of the way the world works nowadays that she does not understand that a portion of those police and fire personnel who respond to all such occurrences are female? That females are not "helplessly passive?"

A horrible opinion by that guy ... there were lots of males at Columbine and in Aurora.

    He's a dope ............ :bricks:

As far as women teachers go ... I preferred women to me when my kids were in grade school.

that's just an opinion not based on any facts or stats.

The writer's point is not delicately stated, but I think it has some merit. There should be some adult male "influence" at the elementary level. Whether it would have made a difference in last Friday's tragedy, who knows?

What would a man do differently? Hide and try to hit him with something and disarm him? Yell and run and hope to avoid the bullets luring him on a wild goose chase? Talk to him in an authoritative male voice and tell him to put the weapon down?

I just don't see a lot of good options unless that male had a gun himself.

LOL....I thought this was a thread about blaming Mrs. Lanza

I actually blame Mrs. PinVA for the whole thing......I don't have a basis, but it sure is fun to blame and point irrelevant fingers

some people live to be offended so they can complain about it

    Stupid article...entire thing.

But I will say that a woman does bear much of the responsibility for what happened at Sandy Hook. And that woman is Adam's mother.

She did a lot of foolish things that contributed to this travesty. But that has nothing to do with her gender. Had Adams father made the same mistakes, I'd say the same thing.

Okay ... back on topic ... I don't see how there could be any tragedy without evaluating everything in place all over again and apply what is prudent without going overboard. My initial suggestion from that day was police in every school. I don't have a problem with that ... I think it's good for kids to get comfortable with police anyways and not view them as an enemy.

We can't go overboard but we need to do whatever we can to allow first responders to get to the scene. I was thinking back to my grammar school days. An old brick building with heavy metal fire doors with the small window in them. A common sight back in the 60's and 70's and then somehow we needed to build schools more friendly looking from the outside. Why? Today's technology with my old grammar school and Adam never sets foot in the joint. Just about every school in my town had those doors.

Now every school has glass doors and huge breakable windows and the lame buzzer to get in. You don't need a gun to cause carnage either ... a sledgehammer gets you in and then whatever an evil mind can come up with to do the job. Nut jobs don't know how to live a normal life but they do know how to kill pretty good unfortunately.

Bring the metal doors with the thick small window back.
