Like a lot of us, I’ve been limping around for the last week wondering if the pain below the belt is ever going to go away. Let’s face it, when you have Tom Brady at quarterback and Bill Belichick as coach anything less than a Superbowl is a disappointment.

So it might not be the best time to be upbeat. But I see that I now have 4,999 posts and I can’t let it pass without saying how much I appreciate this board. It must be ten years now that I’ve been coming here. I remember my first post was to link that famous article by the late Joel Buchsbaum before the 2001 season headed “Patriots Most Set Up For Failure”.

Since then, a lot of posters have come and gone. Some I miss badly, others … well, not so much. But the board is still here and through it all Ian has been loyal, patient and sensible. So thank you, Ian, thank you, everyone. There’s always next year.

Oh … and Steve DeOssie: I think of you the way you obviously think of New England. :bricks:

And the Jets … STILL SUCK!

No hard feelings about 1776 and that misunderstanding of 1812, eh?

Personally I was over it before the coaches even shook hands. Better luck next year. Go 9'ers. :D

Ach, no worries ... only a stubborn, stupid King wanted to fight to keep you. Of course, once you threw in with Napoleon we had to come and kick your *rses. But no hard feelings -- I think your self-esteem has recovered.

I don't mind admitting that I'm still not over it.

I remain incredibly annoyed and aggravated about how this season ended.

It's one thing to play well and lose. It's another to be so incredibly bad. This reminds me a lot of 2009, and this year's team was a lot better than that one.

Yeah, I am not over it.

Agree with the OP. One thing I've been meaning to say and this seems like the appropriate thread. As a follower of the draft, I visit a lot of team boards researching team needs, schemes etc for mocks. On no other board are late round picks analysed to the detail that we do here at Patsfans. None look at potential UDFA's, small schoolers, how to find value in the 5th round and so on. In that respect, Patsfans is unique as a fan forum. So bravo!

Yeah, great points. I come and go here but this is clearly an excellent forum.

Bravo to the backbone posters and the mods.

    Keep it up.

Congrats on 5000 Mike. Yes, a lot of people have come and gone over the years and some were excellent contributors. I have learn much over the years from some of these members.

I was disappointed with the way this season ended, as much as any others person. However I am still grateful for this incredible run that we Patriots fans have had over the past 12 years. And it's not over yet.

Historically very few teams have given their fans what this team has given to us. All you really have to do is think about all 32 teams. Many have never won a SB, others have won one, then went down to the bottom. I could not even dream that my beloved team would be one of the top 5 franchises of all time.

Yeah, not being over this loss doesn't mean I don't totally appreciate the last 12 years. Nut is correct; they've been ridiculously unbelievable and it's so awesome to be a Patriots fan.

Still, last Sunday was a punch squarely in the gonads.

It will just take time for the pain of this to wear off for me. Not that it wont.

If you would have told me eight days ago that the Pats would get pasted by the Ravens on one Sunday and the Celts would be the Heat without Rondo in their second consecutive double OT game on the next Sunday, I would have thought you were smoking crack.

That's why they play the damn games....

At the risk of repeating myself, there's the small matter of back-taxes owed. Once these are paid, yes, we can move on.

    Congrats on the 5k, Mike!

Yes, I was down pretty low last Sunday night and throughout Monday.

Came on here, mainly out of sense of responsibility - - there were some real "acting out" threads Sunday night and many had to go or be, at least, merged. Did all with a heavy heart - - kinda felt like being the street sweeper after a parade of elephants.

Then the Pats signed Armstead on Tuesday....and all of a sudden the sun rose again.

Great thread Mike! I am still very disappointed about how things ended this year, but by the time the draft rolls around I will be raring to go. I hate the off-season stuff (unless it's a good signing). I don't want to be part of the argument over the next few months about whether we should re-sign Welker (I think we should) or the hand-wringing when he goes somewhere else. I think I have decided to go skiing next Sunday rather than watch the Superbowl, but we'll see.

    Sounds like a good plan.

I have a theory that says there are three seasons in the year: football season, ski season and summer. Trouble is I went skiing over Christmas and New Year (it was great, thanks!) and it looks like we've still got a lot of winter to get through.

Where are you going? Wherever it is, if next weekend is like this one, make sure you wrap up warm!

I'm still annoyed and aggravated, though it's slowing but surely ebbing away... Sigh...

2009 sucked but it was nothing compared to 2010 and losing to the damn JESTS. And THAT was just a notch below the two Super Bowls losing to the the Giants.

I avoided just about everything football related for months after 2007, 2010 and 2011. I was just in complete denial all summer after those games. New York, New York...Gawd, I HATE losing to New Yawk!

This year was like 2009. The fact that I still came here to read so soon after the game says something. It sucked, but was not in the same league as the above three loses.
