If each 53-man roster foregoes, say, 10 million in what could have been the cap ... that costs each man an average of about $200,000.

Wouldn't they be happy to have such a sage as Gene Upshaw ****ering for them?

This is why ... i still expect a new deal tomorrow.

(But then why all the cap cut carnage TODAY?)

yeah, exactly...why all the flurry of cuts?

Becasue the teams doing the biggest cutting, Denver and Miami, are way over the cap and will have to cut even with a new CBA.

Other teams are dropping deadwood, and vets on the last (phony) year of their contract. Happens every year a couple days before the start of the year. That's where some of those those prize free agents come from.

According to John Clayton's insider blog, the cap is 94.513 million.

Here are the RFA tenders

Orginal draft round position - $712,000.
First-round tenders - $1.552 million.
1st and 3rd tenders- $2.069 million.

Thanx for that. Makes sense.

Then there's this:
....
Per a league source, the per-team limit will be $94.53 million. There's a possibility, however, that the number will move to $98 million, pending the outcome of a grievance relating to certain television money.

If the CBA is extended before Friday, the cap will definitely shoot past $100 million, and possibly past $105 million.
