More on Rand's philosophy - Paul Ryan's reason for getting into politics:

    Ayn Rand on "the masses."

What are your masses but millions of dull, shrivelled, stagnant souls that have no thoughts of their own, no dreams of their own, no will of their own, who eat and sleep and chew helplessly the words others put into their brains? And for those you would sacrifice the few who know life, who are life? I loathe your ideals because I know no worse injustice than the giving of the undeserved. Because men are not equal in ability and one can't treat them as if they were. And because I loathe most of them. from "We, the Living"

Ayn Rand on how to "set things right."

"Well, I'm the man who robs the poor and gives to the rich — or, to be exact, the man who robs the thieving poor and gives back to the productive rich." from "Atlas Shrugged.

    Ayn Rand On Money

Or did you say it's the love of money that's the root of all evil? To love a thing is to know and love its nature. To love money is to know and love the fact that money is the creation of the best power within you. . .Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter. . .Until and unless you discover that money is the root of all good, you ask for your own destruction. from Atlas Shrugged

Money is the barometer of a society's virtue.

And you guys worried about Reverend Wright's influence!!

I see you've never read Rand, which is fine, but it makes for poor selective quote mining. I'm not the biggest fan, but this is a question being asked of a secret police officer for the Soviets.

Harry's actually right on. It's a statement against communism.

Paul Ryan reminds me of the angry libertarians you meet at Universities.

They were educated in public high schools, often attend subsidized public universities, and use Daddy's middle class money to buy himself luxuries.

And they have the stunning ability to turn around and decry leaches, taxes, and government handouts. 99% of them couldn't 'pull themselves up by their bootstraps' if they had to.

Not to mention to endless waves of them who claim endless red tape and small business rules that are killing the country... without ever having run a business.

A little bit of knowledge (and a limited perspective!) is such a dangerous thing.

Funny stuff, all the media guys talk about (even the ones who disagree with him) is what a positive guy he is with a sunny personality.

Keep up the spinning though we all need a few laughs these days. Thanks for contributing today. :)

Nice deflection Mr. Mod. I speak of his political inclinations, not his personality.

    Talk about spinning LOL

This is why it cracks me up when I see pubbies pulling that "elitist" bullsh1t out of their hindquarters whenever they have a chance...

When your guiding light is Ayn Rand, you need to do some really, really special gymnastics to come out calling the other guy "elitist."

Of course, 13's spent the last 3 or 4 years saying Obama's a fascist and fascists are communists, so I'm sure he's up to the job.

    The syllogism seems to be:

"every other industrialized country in the world" includes or included some that are communist or fascist.

"Every other industrialized country in the world" is also the set of countries with some form of national health care.

Therefore, proposing national health insurance -- not even national health care -- in the United States is communist. Or Fascist.

Of course, this is all in the service of Rand and her ilk, a sort of submissive, pleading religion dressed up as politics, in which congregants come to the Yazidi-like conclusion that the good of the country is a distant, vague god, while the very wealthy are very real, and closer to the affairs of man, if not in any way "good."

Thus, it is wiser to propitiate the wealthy, in an always vain effort to get them to do the things that will benefit the country, and to put the interests of the wealthy above those of the country.

And when they call to "sacrifice," it's not in the spirit of mutual sacrifice on the part of all for the good of all. It's in the spirit of another ancient religion practiced in the Americas hundreds of years ago.

Now you're going to defend Ryan's personality based on what the media says? The "lame-stream" (to quote your heroine, Sarah Palin) media?

    Too funny!

    Ayn Rand collected social security.

    Game.

    Set.

    Match.

Ayn Rand Railed Against Government Benefits, But Grabbed Social Security and Medicare When She Needed Them | Alternet

    her entire line is crap-tastic.

How can one claim to be a christian, and give all they have to the poor, and side with the hypocrisy of Ayn Rand, the social security queen?

Oh, because they are a republican and they are somehow praised for having a visciously circular train of thought?

    cool....

Everyone can choose to lead their life rather than be dependent on others. If you want to just work for someone else, if you do not have the talent to help be a driving force in their business, if you just want to depend on the government , if you don't want or have the ability to do something special...

Then those who do will always be looked at as those who are taking life by the reigns.

The OP wants everyone to have Tom Brady's life... Rand says that Brady has a Hot Wife, and Life because HE took advantage of the opportunities presented to him to become the greatest QB ever...

Countless other QBs do not deserve TBs life because they weren't prepared or good enough to take advantage of the opportunitty when it was there.

Liberals think that's unfair... and that should be corrected...

Any Ayn Rand Elitest is someoen who's earned it, someoen who took risk, worked their ass off and earned their wealth and property.

A Liberal Elitest is like Obama, who thinks that because he thinks he's smart, he deserves to lead everyone else. A Liberal Elitest doesn't earn their status, they just assume they are it, with no proof, or no work to show for it.

Where are all the Dems who run successful businesses? Who lead people, paid paychecks, provided services, and built their own business from their will and determination?

They are few and far between...

This is the difference, and all you want to hear about Ayn Rand is that her "hero's" are just anointed Hero's, they earned it, and fight to protect it... While Liberals just want to take from those who do.

The Mental Gymnastics is how a liberal feels entitled to someone else's labor...
