In comparing the two games vs the jets this year one thing stands out to me in the loss: run defense

in our win we gave up 306 yards in the air and only 50 yards on the ground

in our loss we gave up 168 yards in the air and 110 yards on the ground

in comparison:

we threw for 253 yards in the win and had 145 yds on the ground
we threw for 220 yards in the loss with 135 yards on the ground

pretty much consistent

in both games we had 2 turnovers to the jets 1 and t.o.p. was about equal

granted the gabriel fumble cost us the points that may have been the difference in the loss.

The run defense is the key to forcing pennington to throw the ball often and early.

stop the run, stop the jets. That is my opinion.

The score of the games determines many things.

In the win, the Jets were playing from behind, hence they had to do a lot of passing, and did not run much...hence the low total of rushing yards.

actually in the win they passed 33 times and ran 26 55% pass

in the loss they passed 37 times and ran 20 times. 65% pass

so they passed 10% more in the game that they beat us

This game will be won in the trenches last game Neal and Warren did not play and Seymour had just come back from an injury and was playing on the opposite side. This game they are all back, and this may make a huge difference. I am also assuming that Watson and Wilfork will be playing this Sunday along with Kevin Faulk.. this may be the healthiest we have been in a long time.

Regardless of these stats I think you have missed an important contibuter to that loss game that was more important that the run vs pass and so on. What about the turf in the bad weather? That was one of the worst turf conditions I have ever seen. All I can see is Tom slipping and falling over and over again because it was a mess. It doesn't matter what the strategy was employed in that loss if the feild was so bad it overthrew the play.

There is no doubt that the Pats are a better team here. There is no doubt the run defense is awesome. It will come down to play execution, not stopping one facet of the Jets offense.
