Our run defense wasn't good last year. We didn't focus on it since our 3rd down defense was so much worse.

But now, we have added Haynsworth, and Ty Warren is back. Warren, Wilfork, Haynsworth, AWESOME!

Brace, Pryor, Deaderick and Love are OK backups.

And the there are WRIGHT and STROUD.

If they are healthy, they would be major upgrades over whichever backups they replace.

    Yes.

His 2011 contract over over $5M is guaranteed. I don't think that Belichick would trade for him uness HE was counting him,

The same way I counted on Randy Moss in 07 and Corey Dilllon prior. When a great player leaves a place he didn't want to be and goes to a winning team LOOK OUT.

You're assuming he passes the conditioning test.

Albert, put down that bag of Cheetoes.

Trades usually depend on physical and conditioning tests. If he is completely out of shape I doubt this deal for a fifth-rounder goes through.

Never underestimate Albert's stupidity in screwing this up, which he apparently may do if he repeatedly fails the conditioning test.

Gawd, he'd be the laughing stock of the league and Detroit would claim him off the waivers.

When he went berserking on rookies and tying them all up with tape--even when the head coach had an iron-clad rule against hazing--he offered as a defense that he grew up in South Carolina, near where the movie Deliverance supposedly took place.

    I kid you not.

It's not guaranteed MGT, because AH missed minicamps in 2010. The Pats can cut him tomorrow and not pay him a dime if they wanted to.

A fifth round pick in 2013, that's like a 9th rounder next year, the cost is too high, we need those 9th rounders.

I get the risk reward part I just question Haynesworths mental stability. I hope Belichik is right because if he is the move will help then tremendously.

Coming into a patriots camp helps a player's mental stability a lot. If Haynsworth is healthy and is able to get into shape, I have no questions with regard to his likely production.

Actually I think it can help attitude, my question with Haynesworth is whether he is mentally ill, and I wondered about it when he was with Washington so it has nothing to do with his becoming a Patriot . Only treatment helps if that's actually the case, a new jersey won't help one bit.

If AH plays with a fire in his belly and this team stays healthy, we've got the best team in football.

We've got the best team since the early 1990s Dallas Cowboys and the mid-1980s NY Giants.

This takes the pressure off the edge, where good offensive tackles seem to have progressed better over edge rushers. It makes the secondary look all-world.

If he plays with a fire in his belly...

Ahhhh.....I've been hunting through these threads for exactly that kind of info ---- thx, man.
I didn't know his contract details, but 5m guaranteed for that guy was a head scratcher.

As far as plugging any holes, I'm no expert, and I'll admit I didn't see much of haynesworth on the skins, not that anybody did, but isn't he more of an uphill tackle in the 4 man subs?
I'm not really sure albert has the interest or the discipline to be a run stuffer in our defense.

And I'm not saying an in shape haynesworth would be unwelcome in subs, but is he really going to be happy playing 30 snaps, or is he going to sulk and act out?
Anyway, if he really is a sub package on passing downs I thought 5m guaranteed for a mental case was a bit of a risk.

Thx again for the excellent info.

I think Hayneswth understands that he duped the Skins out of every last dollar that he could have possibly earned from any team, and that he really hurt his long term value. He needs to earn his late-career contract. He knows there's no better place than New England to re-establish himself and the Patriots know they can get a year out of Hayneswoth at his best at virtually no cost.
