Rumor: Patriots in the mix for Vincent Jackson

Same source is now saying this about Jackson...

Vincent Jackson has deal worked out with Vikings but SD wants 2nd+3rd rd picks in 2011 / Vikes not budging off a 3rd so far

Deadline for suspension getting reduced is about to pass.

Baskett is a Viking...Jackson remains a disgruntled Charger in 30 seconds from now....

I wonder if the NFL is like the NBA or the MLB in that they just need to have started discussions and notified the league by the time the deadline is over.

Well, that confirms him being suspended this week. After that his suspension ends, correct? Or did the Chargers further suspend him?

He is suspended 3 games by the league for substance abuse. He was placed on a list by the Chargers that effectively suspended him 3 more games for not showing up to camp. If he had been traded after 3 games the 3 game suspension the Chargers gave him for not showing up would be wiped away. Had he been traded, the 3 game suspension for not reporting would have gone away.

Would a 2nd round pick and giving SD the option of swapping 1st picks with the Oakland pick get it done?

BB would prefer to draft in the 25-32 range anyways. There is a decent chance SD ends up in this range since they are in a weak division. The oakland pick has the potential to be a top 10 pick.

Even a move of 5 spots up in the first round has to be the equivilent of a 3rd round pick. SD would have a large say in how many spots this draft pick is worth based on how they do this season and how they play against oakland. I think it's a risk SD might take.

It seems like a win win for both sides. SD gets the value they want and NE essentially only loses one pick.

So the Pats would be getting him for 10 games + playoffs at this point now.

Unless its 6 weeks, not games. Then we'd have him for 11 regular season games.

Considering Moss is gone after this season, and with Brandon Tate being nowhere to be found, I would want the team to find a way to get a deal done with Mankins first. If that happens, I wouldn't mind if they pursued Jackson. Guy is an athletic freak at WR that would connect well with Brady. We have enough 2nd and 3rd rounders to get it done too.

How does that help?
The Pats problems are

Pass coverage.

They got manhandled at the lines, and they couldn't cover or pass rush.
