You didnt hear? With Rodney, Junior and Donnie...the Pats will be playing the San Diego D this year...shmessy said:Don't mean to throw a wet blanket on this, but didn't it take Beisel and C. Brown about 12 games last year to even understand our D system? And Beisel had a full TC.
Thats actually great news then. Patriots should jump all over that deal as quickly as possible.stinkypete said:Per KFFL, the Chargers have broken off talks with the Saints regarding a trade for Edwards. If I were AJ Smith, I'd actually take the Saints 4th rounder. Hear me out:
1) If all goes as expected, we're talking the difference of no more than 8-10 spots, could be less.
2) Front offices tend to prefer early 4th round picks to late 3rd round picks (especially if they're within 8 spots or so of each other) since they have 12 hours to mull over the early day 2 pick, versus 5-10 minutes or so for the late 3rd rounder. The first pick of the 4th round is always a coveted front office asset.
For these reasons, AJ Smith rejecting the Saints 4th round offer doesn't bode well for the Pats 3rd round offer. He's looking for more (perhaps a throw-in).

Just listen to what the Chargers want, they want a FIRST DAY draft pick. That should tell you enough about how much more valuable a 3rd rounder is versus a 4th.
He could be pulling a Manny Ramirez type situation and just saying his back is hurt so he doesnt have to practice.NE39 said:It does look like Edwards will get traded somewhere. This doesn't confirm any interest from NE, but today's SD Union Tribune reports:
Where just recently there was quiet, there is now significant activity. As of last night, no deal had been struck, but sources said yesterday the Chargers are entertaining suitors for linebacker Donnie Edwards. Available for trade since April and at odds with management, Edwards has not practiced since the first day of training camp because of a bad back. The Saints last week offered a fourth-round pick for Edwards, but Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith is likely to hold out for a first-day pick.
If the Pats do have interest, they would want to talk to Edwards to get a grip on how he would feel about filling the role they envision for him and how his contract situation will be impacted. That is their MO in past deals.
Also, they would need to be certain his back is OK, since he has been hurt all of camp.
