    On the duck boat?

I was being serious. I though you made the Globe as a kid after getting your picture taken as you saluted GM and he did so back.

Appears to be a general increase in the number of obvious or veiled personal attacks, and minimal intervention by the mods... minimal response to the thread and blatant attacks on the poster.

The predictable follow up of pot calling kettle black will clearly ensue... which will illustrate my point.

He came through Central Sq in a motorcade headed up to Harvard, I had that picture for years but we must have lost it in our moves, I was in the right place at the right time when he looked in my direction I saluted him he actually saluted back...

Open the "conversation" you want to delete. Click "leave conversation" at the top. It will give you choices...one of the choices will delete the conversation.

Forum should have a Bush thread sticky.

It could serve as a comforting tool for the left when Obama is screwing up ... which is almost daily lately.

FYI, If we close a legitimate thread because it's been hijacked into bickering, feel free to repost the same thread and try again.

DarrylS has been accused repeatedly of plagiarism. While the accusation may have been valid at the beginning (and I guess I was away or somehow missed the thread, so I don't know all the details), it is time to move on. Further, I believe he ultimately apologized for his error and has not done it since.

The fact is this forum regularly has plagiarism when many of you post charts and images without sourcing them. It's a standard tool of many people in this forum to use a chart from a biased site and not provide a link. Often these charts and images do not credit the author. That too is plagiarism, and if you wish to discuss this issue, then I think the valid question is should we crack down on that type of plagiarism, since it happens quite often.

I think RW and I are pretty libertarian when it comes to way we regulate this forum, but dredging up past mistakes (and I've made my share, too) again and again when it's not directly relevant to the conversation at hand is a personal attack.

I have zero problem with both of you cracking down on plagiarism. But I think there is a big difference between someone forgetting to post a link for a chart or image versus someone deliberately taking credit for another's work. Big difference.

There was no "apology" from DarrylS unless you include his lame attempt to justify what he did as an "apology".

For the record, I appreciate the job both you and RW do to moderate this board. It is much better here now than in the past. Much, much better.
That being said, this action smacks of favortism. Unless, of course, we can expect that all such references for all posters will be erased? I would hope that this action be applied evenhandly.

    Thank you for your reply.

Well, rarely have I said to you, I appreciate your comments!

The fact is we don't have a rule against plagiarism mostly because it's almost never a problem. I agree that if someone forgets to source something that's okay. We all make mistakes.

What I don't like is when people keep dredging up past mistakes as a means of diminishing someone's comments. Years ago, I accidentally sourced part of my argument against nuking Japan in WWII to a site that was sympathetic to North Korea. A certain poster would keep bringing it up, as if I was somehow sympathetic to North Korea, as an attempt to diminish my points about other things. His actions in no way facilitated the discussions. They were a distraction and contributed to ill-will in the forum.

The reason I raised this issue was because in the last few days I've deleted maybe four or five posts from three or four people about DarrylS's transgression. You are not the only one.

Maybe we should have a rule on plagiarism. It is a bit of problem with our use of charts and images. It could in theory create problems for the website itself.

I also want to say that you probably are not aware of the number of posts I've deleted by some of the liberal posters for personal attacks. That's probably why you think the forum is better! I try to be fair, though one reason we have a liberal and more conservative moderator is because the liberal tends to read more conservative posts and the conservative tends to read more of the liberal posts. So, no bias is intended in our moderation, but it does happen.

ON EDIT: I just saw your thread and locked it since I'd like to keep it in the rules thread. Out of curiosity, when I lock a thread are you able to go in and look at it? In the old software a closed thread could no longer be viewed. I'm not sure if that's the case with the new forum software.
