Welcome to the Political Forum. The purpose of this forum is to share, discuss, and debate political news and ideas.

The forum is best when it has a variety of points of view expressed with respect, humor, and intelligence. We want to encourage people to participate in our threads and not push them out by diminishing them or their posts.

In addition to the following rules, any rules of Patsfans.Com are also applicable. The following rules were developed by forum participants as way to make the forum appropriate to all members of this website. If you believe a rule should be modified or eliminated, feel free to initiate a discussion about the rule.

    RULES

    1. No threats: The quickest path to being suspended or even expelled from the website is to threaten someone. There are no exceptions to this rule.

    2. No personal attacks: You cannot call someone who participates in this forum an idiot, a terrorist, a Nazi, and so on. Do not provoke someone by baiting, teasing, insulting, harassing, stalking, posting offensive images, linking to insulting videos, and so on.

    3. No stereotyping: No attacks that stereotype all people of a race, ethnicity, religion, gender (no mysogyny), national origin, sexual orientation, or who are serving in the US military: For example, if Widgets were a race, it would be against the rules to call all Widgets ugly, selfish, or cheap.

    4. No swearing: No four-letter words or the equivalent.

    5. No trolling. Do not make posts that are intended to offend, insult, or belittle. Posts that have "NT" before the title will be monitored more strictly for trolling, but such threads should not be trolling in themselves or the "NT" tag will be removed.

    6. No posting of inappropriate content: Spam, porn, images designed to offend a Patsfan member or group, personal information (such as a member's phone number), and other content that is deemed by the moderators as offensive is not allowed. Moderators reserve the right to remove photos that may be deemed offensive to members or visitors.

    7. No hijacking: Posts must relate to the original subject of the thread. When we determine if a post is hijacking, we will look for two things: Does the post in question have anything to do with the first post in the thread? Has the post in question initiated a conversation that rightly belongs in its own thread?

    8. No duplicate threads: Before initiating a new thread, check to see if someone has already posted on the subject. If you are starting a new thread that is similar to one less than two weeks old, make it clear why your thread is different or it will be merged.

    9. Religious Discussion: Threads and posts about religious dogma are discouraged unless there is a clear political message. If you want to discuss theology, please post in the Religion Forum.

    10. Thread limit: You may post up to three threads per day. If you initiate more than three, the additional ones will be deleted.

    11. Quoting: When quoting, you may only copy up to four sentences from the source, and you must include a working URL or the source of the quotes: In other words, help patsfans.com avoid copyright infringement. Note that you can quote more than four lines of material that is in the public domain, is not copyrighted, or is copyrighted and states that it may be used without permission. Examples include press releases and the US Constitution.

    12. Ian's rule: Complaining about moderating or moderators publicly will result in a 5-day suspension with no exceptions. If you want to discuss a concern with us privately, then send us a polite PM or post a respectable note in this thread.

    PENALTIES

The moderators have the right to issue warnings, infractions, delete posts, close threads, ban individuals from a thread, suspend individuals from the forum, and if necessary expel someone from the forum. You can appeal a moderator's decision to the other moderators.

Threads and posts complaining about the warnings or infractions will be deleted, but people are free to post their complaints in this thread regarding any issues they may have with these rules and guidelines.

The moderators will do their best to consult each other before suspending or banning someone.

The moderators are: Real World, Patters

I can think of somebody who in nearly every post interjects religion, calls "progressives" idiots or gets around calling somebody an idiot by asking them if they ever get tired of being wrong or hints at them being idumb and adds eye rolls for effect and hijacks every thread for this agenda.

A very reasonable rule change would be for the mods to explain why a person is shut out of a thread, and what rule was violated.

When clarification is sought words like "rude" should be avoided as that cannot be quantified... btw there is no rule regarding rudeness...

Failing to do so only results in confusion...

    Happy, Happy, Happy...

Regarding body part comments on women being against the rules....

Members would assume that applies to both sexes...we can't say that comments on women's body parts are off-limits but it's ok to comment on a man's body part.

For example, we can't say Hillary Clinton has a big butt....nor can we comment on the size of Chris Christies large bottom.

Can't make one off-limits and not the other.

I think you were the OP on that thread....so may I suggest you just start a new one? I know that doesn't answer your question though.

It was a valid topic and being discussed widely in the media.

    Go for it!

Nah.....it rapidly degenerated into a "fat" thread and a "Bengazi" thread and a "Man kills wife over pizza in Texas" thread and a "I know I am but what are you," thread.

It becomes clearer and clearer here that some people don't want to have any kind of legitimate conversation on anything which is uncomfortable to "their" side - they simply flood the thread with unrelated nonsense without even trying to tie it into the subject at hand.

My whole attitude at this point is - "Why bother?"

I'd be happy if we got rid of every thread where a single event is presented as evidence of an absolute.

It's 5/105 degrees out today so man made global climate change is absolutely bogus\true.

The stock market is up\down so the recession is over\worsening.

I have no problem with another event being brought into the conversation if there's a legitimate tie-in. However, when the subject is New Jersey and Chris Christie and someone links to a story about a killing in Texas because someone brought home pizza instead of chicken - there's a real attempt at a serious disconnect going on.

Ditto changing the topic to how fat Hillary is or if she wears dresses or pantsuits.

Talking about how fat Chris Christie is in a thread about Chris Christie, while ignorant, is at least a bit more relevant to a thread about Christ Christie than is ranting about Hillary's perceived pudginess.

Christie's weight may very well be an issue in a presidental election - simply on a health basis. His weight is something he's addressed himself. It's been an issue in his past elections. His health IS a presidential concern.....just like Hillary's past blood clot will be a presidental concern if she gets the nomination. Her weight, however, will not be simply because she does not suffer from morbid obesity as Christie does. If she did, it would. But she doesn't.

I wasn't referring to your thread. In general every time there's a heat wave or snow storm there's a thread declaring victory. Same things with an economic indicator which on it's own is meaningless.

I agree....nothing wrong with discussing someone's weight if it's relevant to the discussion and not demeaning. But if we're going to have rules against demeaning comments on body parts, it has to apply to both men and women or none of the above.

There is commenting intelligently on someone's weight and there is making demeaning comments - the problem is that there are many posters who can't or won't see the difference.

Saying "Chris Christie is grossly overweight," is far different than saying, "fata$$ed Hillary."

Saying, "Chris Christie looks unhealthy," is far different than saying, "Imagine 8 years of watching Pant Suit Hillary waddling around."
