Roy Williams cut

This is a good post, I'm not a big R. Williams fan but in allot of ways his game is close to Harrison's. A couple years ago he had like 5 picks. All of which were read or film study picks. No he's not gonna lock on a guy and run around with him, but he does understand where he fits into the defense. The guy is natural playmaker.

He's not even close to Rodney Harrison. That's an insult to Rodney. Rodney was never as bad as Williams in coverage.

Roy Williams is 28, yes Rodney 'was' better in coverage. He was also better coached, and who knows maybe he'll be around to coach him up. Rodney is afootball junkie, film rat. His picks mostly are the product of film study and hard work. Who is to say that the 28 year old williams given new scenery is'nt ready to become that kind of player.

LOL. But you just said RW is 28 years old. He is what he is. We're not talking about a young pup who just entered the pros and has some upside left to explore.
If the Cowboys thought that RW was a player who could continue to improve, they would not cut him.
Have you also considered that RW's problems might be the result of physical limitations? Those do NOT improve with age.

What do you think Rodney was when we picked him up, a 3rd round pick. No he was cut from SD, he was a cast off. You seem sort of short sighted on this thing, are we talkin creationism or evolution.

I'll take Roy Williams on my team. We desperately need someone who can tackle in that secondary.

Williams has a lot of bad habits and technique flaws that would need to be straightened out. If anybody could do it, it would be BB.

It never hurts to have nastiness on your roster. (Unless you have dumb nastiness like the Riaders or like Willams. Another thing BB would fix in a heartbeat.)

Question is would he improve Merriweather and Sanders .. I think he probably would but only for the right $$$. No harm in seeing how he does in camp

Not sure he's a Pats guys though .. probably end up at the Eagles or Jets

Roy Williams never was the caliber of player that Harrison was, and imo never will be. I think you overestimate his ability to improve his play at age 28.

hes great against run..terrible in coverage but if we use him close to line in our Cover 3..it can be a good signing

he can blitz..tackle well..plays his responsibilities in run game. we just cant expose him in open space coverage

Wouldn't RLW be an upgrade over Tank Williams in that hybrid spot the Pats were looking at in camp before Tank blew out a knee? Tank Williams was looked upon favorably here as a linebacker lite despite having questionable speed or coverage skills. Evenetually, most thought of Tank as Minn's loss and our gain, but the same argument against RLW made in this thread could have been used against Tank - if Minn thought he'd be good then they wouldn't have let Tank go. We did sign Tank for minimum after all.

Tank, when healthy, had significantly better speed than Roy.

That said, I'd be thrilled if we could get Roy for a reasonable price, and let him play with a clean slate.

He'd probably be a very good fit in New England.
