Did you read the source Roto quoted?

The guy says the Pats may be interested in Dorsey enough to trade up. Nothing about sources citing they will.

I love how citing a rumor makes something seem true.

"In fact, the emphasis on speed rushers is so strong that New England, which has the No. 7 overall pick via last year’s draft trade with the San Francisco 49ers, has had Dorsey in for a personal workout and is contemplating a trade up for him, according to a source close to the team and another close to the player."

Im gonna just point out the obvious, which is that our FO guys are the best in the world at FUELING THE DRAFT MEDIA MACHINE. They'll never trade up for Dorsey. But they must want to make sure that every team ahead of them makes a play for him to let OUR guy drop. Its spin, man. Pure spin. Every last word.

I'm all for this. I think Dorsey is probably the best player in the draft. Only thing is he has a few health concerns. He's a bit injury prone. But, he is one hell of a player.

He could have a place on this team, and I think he could adjust to the system a little better than some realize, but I don't think the Patriots would be interested in trading up for him. So, this seems like a team created false rumor, and I doubt anyone from Dorsey's camp would deny the rumor, as they would likely see it as a positive.

People talk about Dorsey like he's simply an upfield penetrator, which isn't entirely accurate. Go back and watch LSU, especially the National Championship game. Those without a solid understanding of the game might think Dorsey only had an average outing. The problem with that line of thinking is that Dorsey was getting double teamed, and OSU's having to double him, allowed the other D-linemen to penetrate, and even while fighting a constant double team, Dorsey was able to make some outstanding plays.

Some fans and media types might get to caught up in what a particular player was asked to do within his college system, and not what he could be able to do within other systems. Basically, just because Dorsey played at such a high level within LSU's system, doesn't mean he couldn't adjust to NE's system.

I personally think Dorsey is the best D-linemen in the draft, and could see the Patriots having legit interest in him, but I also think this rumor is BS.

I think this rumor from Yahoo, basically comes from Peter King's MMQB article. Peter King has seemed to think for the past few weeks that the Patriots are really interested in Dorsey. It makes alot of sense, especially to the Rams if Jake Long is gone. That's who they covet. But, I doubt the Patriots would want to pay the price to move up to #2. It makes sense that they would have to goto #2 cause the Falcons defintely want him at 3. I'd love to see it happen, but this is just your annual Draft rumors with 10 days to goto the draft. I think in the end they'll settle for Sedrick Ellis at #7, although there is talk that KC could take him at #5.

    No Jersey Selected

Nah, this is a smoke screen. Our defensive line is fine as it is. As someone said earlier in the thread, they probably want someone else to take him to ensure that Gholston has a chance of dropping to us.

They may well have a legit source, since that's exactly how the team would start a rumor, if that's what they wanted to do.

It's fun to watch the team picking at seven. :) Usually the master of machinations has to maneuver from lower down.

I suspect they would trade up if the price is real cheap. With a seemingly fairly even group in the top 6-8 they may be able to go from 7 to 2 or 3 for Dorsey at a very minimal price. Obviously if it were the normal price for that kind of move this wouldn't be an option. But if it would only take our low #2 to move up and they think Dorsey is a stud who could fit in well with what their plans are, you don't get many chances to draft DL you really, really like.

Why would they trade up and spen a ton od cap room on a player in a postion that is the strongest on the team?

If any writer truly has a line on the Patriots' thinking and is "in" with them then what he/she would be doing would be the job of spreading false info and rumors stearing everyone away from the players the Pats really want. Best we can do is focus on the players strengths and weaknesses and fit with the team. Let's leave the strategy to BB/Pioli.

Re: Rotoworld: Pats may trade up for Dorsey

Do you know how much the #2 pick is going to want to get paid? That alone should give you pause before jumping on the trade up for Dorsey bandwagon. This move just doesn't make sense for the Patriots, either financially or from a depth chart point of view. Therefore it's not going to happen. The only team I'd see the Pats trading up with is KC at 5, because it would only cost them a 3rd round pick. Those of you who think the Pats want to jump up to a spot between 2-4 are smoking some good weed.

Here's how the draft should unfold...

    1. J Long
    2. Dorsey
    3. M Ryan
    4. Mcfadden
    5. Ellis or Clady
    6. C. Long or Gholston
    7. Best player left or trade down.

And that's how I see it for now.
