Re: Rookie mini-camp starts tomorrow.

If by once again, you mean Hernandez, that is incorrect. He did not test positive at the combine. As far as the NFL is concerned he has zero strikes.
He was talking about Tate.

Re: Rookie mini-camp starts tomorrow.

The player and team signs a waiver that says they'll still get paid according to their draft slot. For example (though not career ending) the Pats gave McKenzie the same contract he would have received based on his draft past position last year. I suppose the team can take out insurance in case an injury happens if they wanted to, but the player does not need to do that.

Thanks for the clarification.. glad to see that they will be taken care of if something happens..

A lot of the UDFAs will be gone.....some MAY stick hopefully..but this is the time that they learn...and the team sees WHO may make it....other vets as well...

The 8 signed UDFA have contracts (some may be for 2 years). Its highly unlikely they will be cut before Training Camp starts in late July! A few UDFAs are brought in for a tryout (Brewer WR Northwestern). They might get a contract at the end of the mini camp (depending upon how many players the Pats have signed). Rookie draft picks are not signed until Training Camp and therefore do not count against the 80 man roster limit.

Actually..it's highly LIKELY that a few will get cut before camp..having 2-3 year deals means nothing if you do not make the grade...I will do some research later today on UDFAs signed after teh draft and how many made it TO training camp...

A few will get cut before training camp, mostly to make room for the signing of a veteran free agent. Examples from last year:

4/29: LB Bo Ruud cut; next day Pats trade for TE Alex Smith and also sign Hoyer.
5/5: P Tom Malone cut; Pats sign Brandon McGowan
5/26: TE Brad Listorti and T Damane Duckett cut; Pats sign Paris Lenon and re-sign Malone.
6/4: RB Omar Cuff, DE Angelo Craig, and DT Kenny Smith cut.
6/16: LB Antonio Appleby cut; Pats sign Rich Ohrnberger.
7/27: CB Antwain Spann cut; Pats sign Chung.
8/2: LB Vince Redd cut; Ninkovich signs.
8/3: Walter signed, Gutierez cut.

After Ohrnberger, Darius Butler was the next draft pick to sign on 7/13. Most draft picks signed between 7/23 and 7/29

The last few years....this is basically how it's been...
06 15 UDFAs signed....10 made it to the start of camp 07 6 UDFAs signed all 6 made it to the start of camp 08 12 USFAs signed 8 made it to camp 09 4 UDFAs signed...(NOT including the 3 Navy guys) 1 made it to camp
