Economic promises drawn up by a seven year old:

Romney targets 4 percent unemployment | Fox News

"....Earlier Friday, Romney said the economy should be adding about 500,000 jobs a month, more than four times the April figures. "This is way, way, way off from what should be happening in a normal recovery," Romney said....."

    NORMAL recovery????????

The few times U.S. has met Romney’s 500,000 jobs-a-month goal - Political Watch - MarketWatch

"......Lest Romneyites think that only President Barack Obama struggled to make that grade, neither President Bush, older or younger, saw job creation that strong. President Clinton had one-plus 500,000 month, when in September, 1997, 507,000 positions were created. (Aided by the return of striking UPS workers.) President Reagan enjoyed a spectacular 1.11 million-job month in September 1983, but that was the only plus-500K mark and was boosted by roughly 640,000 AT&T workers returning from a strike.

In fact, the last president to achieve back-to-back 500,000-plus months of job creation was one Romney recently mocked — Jimmy Carter — who saw 513,000 jobs created in March 1978 and 702,000 jobs added the next month. Those months reflected workers coming back from a coal strike.

Sub-4% unemployment also is a rarity, one that wasn’t achieved by Kennedy, Ford, Carter, Reagan, both Bushes and Obama....."

Can you imagine anyone predicting such a thing?

    Oh, wait:

44 - Biden predicts economy will create up to 500,000 jobs a month soon

    Glass houses, etc.

I wonder if this was an attempt by the Romney campaign to remind everyone of this. If he brought it up, ho hum, but if he gets ridiculed for doing so...oopsie!

For a guy who is worth $250 million....he sure is dumb.

I'm waiting for him to claim he can bring gas prices down to a 'wooden nickel' a gallon.

Biden....for a VP he sure is dumb...

In a campaign such as this...the LAST person Mitt wants to be compared to is the VP. I thought he was running against Obama?

    run Mitt....run...

I don't mean he would bring it up for comparison reasons. I mean that it would help stop this:

Typical right wing billionaire greed. Instead of giving American jobs he's gonna export a gazzilion of them to Brazil:mad: No wonder the Tea Party doesn't like this guy.

Romney is pretty mediocre, OTOH the guy currently holding the position is a total moron. so Romney couldn't be any worse. See this is a jobless recovery. Jobs have been stagnent (along with stock prices) since Reid 7 Pelosi have were running congress.

As per US Dept of Labor statistics:

    29.7 Million Seek Work

This was before today's NFP report. when 115k jobs were 'created' but magically 500k+ people left the labot force in 1 month. The 55+ segment has the lowest unemployment and isn't leaving the labor force the young are getting crushed.

Since the OP cliams I know nothing about the economy here is the summation from someone who knows a lot more about the economy and markets than OP or me, R Santelli (vid at link).

Rick Santelli Blasts Liberal Media’s “Ostrich Economics” (Video) | The Gateway Pundit

Obama promised to cut the deficit in half how's that working out?

So the choice is between the mediocre and a total failure.

    Mitt is good VP material.

In fact, since he and Obama are on the same page so often - - especially with regards to Universal healthcare - - I'd be ok with him replacing Biden as VP for the second term.

wait, what Biden said isn't the same thing

    Romney said about 500,000

Biden said 100,000-200,000 and eventually 250,000-500,000. If you want to criticize Biden for not achieving what he predicted, fine -- but those are two quite different predictions.

    Uhhh no they're not

Vice President Biden predicted Friday at a Pennsylvania fundraiser that the U.S. economy would be adding up to 500,000 jobs each month "some time in the next couple of months."

He said that in April of 2010. 24 months ago. Is that a couple?

    Romney's just weird.

Today, in a weak economy he says anything over 4% isn't worth celebrating but a few months ago he was boasting that back when he was governor his state's unemployment rate was 4.7% - and that was during an economic good time.

Read more: Romney targets 4 percent unemployment | Fox News

[quuote]Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney boasted that Massachusetts was losing jobs when he took office and gaining jobs when he left. That's true, but the entire country was experiencing job growth during that period, and Massachusetts' rate of job growth was one of the weakest in the country.
Romney also boasted that three out of his four years in office, Massachusetts had an unemployment rate below the national average, and ended up with a 4.7 percent unemployment rate. In fact, the unemployment rate was slightly better than the national average when Romney took office, and was identical to the national average when he left.[/quote]

    "always" LOL

I reply based on the content of the post. If you don't like it, tough break, pookie. Was my reply to Brandon in any way personal? What's that, it wasn't? You're right, it wasn't.

Why do you call people liars and yet you kick people out of threads when they call you out on your lies?

It's funny, you repeatedly try correcting me, and every time you fall flat on your face.

Re-read what I wrote. Did I say Biden was right? Nope

Did I say Biden could be criticized for not achieving his predictions? Yup

But Biden's claim wasn't the same as Romney's. If you'd like, I'll help you out with what those numbers mean -- if they're confusing you, try lopping off the last 3 zeros on each, maybe that's confusing you.

Lie-o-meter says that even before special K posted it here, the characterization was a half-truth at best.

The actual text of what Biden said, said the economy would first be adding 100,000-200,000 jobs, then in the future, 250,000-500,000 -- which by the time the blog got it, became "up to 500,000," which became, in this thread, a claim that this administration has promised continual growth at a 500K/month clip.

As has been shown, the last time back-to-back 500k/mo. job growth happened Jimmy Carter was president -- and of course, since unions have been destroyed, we won't have those pesky inflated months that both Carter and Reagan could count on when strikes ended.

As we speak, we're creating a cohort of older workers who could not come back from the 08 collapse, and retired early as a result (the counter to the realization on the part of many others that they had to work as long as they possibly could, because we've killed the old defined benefit pension for so many, but there's been no real replacement.)

We're headed for more elder poverty as the sheep keep bleating about their taxes.

In terms of generations, I only thank God that the Gen. X folks are so outnumbered not only by Baby Boomers but by Millennials as well. That also happens to be the future bright spot in this story -- if, of course, our economy doesn't just go kablooey as the "peak everything" school of thought says must inevitably now happen. If we're only carving up a static pie, we've got bigger problems than who gets how much. The wheels just come off if economic growth is a thing of the past, as the doomsayers say.

If the doom and gloomers are right, there's no real point to these conversations. Pretty harrowing. I feel the same way about coronal mass ejections, rapidly melted ice caps, nuclear exchanges, and release of a biological contagion that ends in casualties on a proportionate par with the bubonic plague in the middle ages.

Stipulating that it's not the end of the world after all, however, we're not always so smart about encouraging the hoped-for growth. You don't get growth by giving everything to rich people. Get that "solution" out of your heads.

You know, in the wake of that Secret Service scandal, that joke has some more layers now.

Def. Sec. - "Two Brazilian troops were killed in Iraq, sir."
President - "Oh my god, how much is a Brazilian?"
Secret Service - "About 40 bucks."

    Amen.

I'm pretty sure that a large majority of the "super rich" and the corporations-are-people-too crowd are about as willing to let their money and tax dollars "trickle down" to help us((and by "us" I mean the middle class) as people like Real World and PR are willing to let their's trickle down to help welfare recipients.

The thing is that nobody really wants 500,000 jobs created each month because the 500,001st thing created in that case is a roaring case of inflation.

Then again if yer underwater with your mortgage or any other debt really...

How so? Because Biden mentioned passing through 100, 200 and 250k first? Is Mitt's real failure the fact that he didn't mention that the path to 4% is paved with 7, 6 and 5?

Since we are already in a recovery, I am not sure that this is a prediction. He said that that is what should be added during a typical recovery. Unless we enter a recession next few months, this will not be possible if Mitt takes office.
