Every NFL team will now play a Thursday game each year.

....to be aired on the NFL Network that most people don't get?

No, he said there would be 13 Thursday night games a year, that only allows 26 teams to play. Every team will play at least one primetime game, but it could just as well be Sunday or Monday night.

Of course, though it would still be aired locally if it's the Pats.

    13 NFLN games = 26 teams
    1 season opener = 2 teams
    2 'afternoon' Thanksgiving games = 4 teams

    32 teams

Add in the opening night game on NBC and the 2 Thanksgiving games on CBS and FOX than all 32 teams will have played on a Thursday.

Too many games will be missed nationally though, don't you think? most everyone gets to see MNF and SNF.

Only one of the Thanksgiving games is on in primetime (assuming they do 3 again). In 2011 the game times were 12:30, 4:15, and 8:20.

Edit: I see what you're saying, though, they could have all teams play a Thursday game without regard for whether it's in primetime. Though all Goodell said was they would all play a primetime game. If they all play Thursday and some of the Thursday games aren't primetime, they'd still need to get another primetime game.

I don't get to see MNF any more as a result of ditching cable, but for most people you're right. The NFL wants to push their network, though.

As much as we LOVE football, this may actually be a bad thing. It could be the start of 'overkill'. I've heard some fans say this about soccer when they did the same thing overseas.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing and corrected my post. Nonetheless, though, Goodell said that every team would play a primetime game. Giving everyone a Thursday game doesn't satisfy that.

I hear you. It seems to be a case of either reporters missing something or two groups talking past one another.

BTW, I should have fleshed out that post even more. I wasn't trying to imply the bricks were for you, but for the information dichotomy.

    Mea culpa

"Overkill "would only happen if they had each team play 18-20 games a year
