He is the AFC's Rex Grossman. He is mechanically flawed and an awful decision maker. The only difference is that San Diego has a couple of ridiculously talented players to help cover all of his deficiencies.

I've never seen a less talented player getting into refs faces and acting with so much false bravado.

He is a horrible QB. But he's another punk like the rest of that team so he's a perfect fit.

I honestly hate that team more than I hate the Colts. They have rubbed me the wrong way since 2005.

The past few years we've seen an absolute parade of 1st-round QBs not developing as hoped. Look at the miserable performance of guys like Losman, Young, Smith, etc. Of the dozen top-rated QBs in the league, 4 were drafted in the past 5 years:

    1 in the first round
    2 on the second day
    1 a UDFA

Pretty darned lousy rate, that. Normally you'd say "well sure, that's because they were picked by bad teams!" But that's just not the case here. Guys like Rivers and Young are weak links on teams with good defensive talent.

    Disable Jersey

College football and the NFL seem to be two different games, especially when it comes to quarterbacks. Still, it's shocking that scouts don't do a better job when you think of all the money involved.

(By the way, if you think that Young is a disappointment, what odds would you give Jamarcus Russell?)

I read Bruschi's book a few weeks ago, and there was a certain passage that comes to mind. He was talking about the divisional playoff game last year, and said that Rivers was the biggest talker of all of them. Although, he said Vrabes shut him up with, "You'll never be Drew Brees. Never. We know it, and all the guys in that huddle know it.":D

I read bruschi's book too - that little tidbit was my favorite part - i hate how Rivers spent so much time jawin at our guys when he had pretty much nothin to back up all his talk.

Could not agree more! He has a weak arm, cannot read a defense to save his life, blows up under pressure, absolutely NO leadership skills.

His D gets 5 ints in barely 3 full quarters of play at home and he cannot get enough points on the board to keep the away team out of the contest.

    PATHETIC!!!!!

I don't agree with this. The successful college guys are also successes in the NFL. Drew Brees was excellent in college, much better than Rivers. Brady was excellent in college as well.

The combine and the individual tests are where the scouts go wrong. Rivers had a hitch in college and threw a lots of INTs. Same Rivers. Akili Smith blew up at the combine. Didn't do a damn thing in college.

I can only think of a few busts who were great in college and blew it in the pros. Andre Ware is one. Tim Couch is another. But for the most part, I scratch my head when teams pick Tony Eason over the Dan Marinos. That's just stupid.

The same hing is going to happen this year. Matt Ryan is going to get picked over OSU's Boeckman, but Boeckman will end up being the better college QB. Dixon from Oregon is another Akili in waiting. The only sure fire QB is Brian Brohm.

    That fumble seals it.

    Actually, that "drive" does.

I actually defended Rivers last week, saying it takes time to really judge how good or bad a QB is....but dear lord he is looks absolutely terrible...why are his mechanics so bad??

I think it has to do with lack of work by these QBs once they get in the NFL. I live in Raleigh (Rivers went to NC State) and Rivers is a tremendous talent. His delivery is just messed up and always has been.

Even Peyton has failed to develop his skills significantly. He is a dough-boy whose passes flutter quite a bit. Both of those things could be corrected, but haven't. Credit to Manning on the success he has achieved. He may be the best timing passer I have ever seen (tonite aside, I have no idea how he doesn't get picked off more).

Another reason to be thankful for being a Pats fan. Brady was a skinny kid with a questionable arm in 2000. Nobody calls him skinny now thanks to several years of work in the weight room...and he throws passes 65 yards downfield with enough hangtime that they could be confused with punts. His passes almost always have a tight spiral. Ever notice his "jump ball" passes to Moss come raining down like lawn darts? No wonder he can catch them with just his elbow.

This stuff doesn't happen by accident. Brady could have taken it easy after 2001 but to his credit he has developed his game every single year. In a copy-cat league, I'm shocked that more QBs apparently haven't tried very hard to follow his example.

On QBs and the NFL draft. Todd Marinovich and Dan McGwire were picked ahead of Bret Favre.

That definitely wasn't based on their college performance.

They have always been bad. He had 4 really successful years in college and apparently nobody has really pushed him to change.
