I could have sworn there would be a post here by now; maybe I missed it. But Ronnie James Dio, truly one of the pioneers of heavy metal, has died. This guy is a metal god, on par with old school greats such as Rob Halford and Ozzy. His voice was fantastic, and by all account, he was a genuinely nice guy. RIP DIO!

"Greats such as . . . Ozzie" ? Oh my. Dio, Halford and Bruce are the three Gods, my friend ;)

Anyway, I loved Dio and was lucky enough to see him three times. RIP.

Ok, so I forgot Bruce. Good call, Maiden is no doubt an amazing band. But you don't think Ozzy is a metal icon?

I guess he's an icon but I hate his damn voice; in fact I have an on going discussion with a few friends, Sabbath with Ozzy vs. Sabbath with Dio. I pick the latter, they don't. Bottom line, I hate Ozzy and can't stand to listen to him.

Well I don't want to turn this into a fight about Ozzy but Ozzy SUCKS.

Black Sabbath with DIO >>>>>>>>>> Black Sabbath with Ozzy.

Oh wow. We don't disagree much in the political forum, but I couldn't disagree more here. But admittedly, I love Ozzy Sabbath. Mentally I treat Dio's Sabbath as a completely different band. I love Heaven and Hell, but to me it's just not Sabbath. Master of Reality is one of the greatest albums ever.

I don't think I've ever met someone who loves metal, as clearly you do, that hates Ozzy. Interesting BF!

That voice just grinds at me. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Now, the red lights shining on Dio as he begins Heaven & Hell . . . :rocker:

Terribly sad news, I didn't even know he was seriously ill. I met Ronnie backstage a few years ago and chatted with him briefly. He was a very cool guy, totally opposite his onstage persona. The amazing thing about him was that the range, tone and overall quality of his voice didn't lessen at all over the many years. I thought he would go on into his seventies. A great talent has been lost.

I recall when I interviewed Ritchie Blackmore a few years ago just months before Cozy Powell died in a car accident, he said he was in touch with Ronnie about another round with Rainbow. This is uncharted territory, when the heroes we grew up with and idolized are succumbing to the ravages of age and time.
